It’s not as if something similar hasn’t been done before to the IRS.

SIGH.... Nobody has ever answered this for me...

What Punishment does a person get for being cited in CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS?

When someone is declared in contempt of court, that person gets jailed.

When Lois Lerner and Eric Holder were held in contempt of congress, what did they get?

In the case of the former, a cozy retirement and a fat pension.

So, what’s there to fear?

So - the question begs: could this not be used thusly?

""Commissioner Koskinen HILLIARY violated the public trust," Chaffetz said in a statement Tuesday. HE failed to comply with a congressionally issued subpoena, documents were destroyed on his HER watch, and the public was consistently misled.

IRS chief faces Senate grilling over Tea Party targeting

Lawmakers argued Koskinen had destroyed evidence while under subpoena and hid from investigators a hard-drive crash that had wiped away thousands of requested emails.

The deputy inspector general testified in June that IRS employees “magnetically erased” 422 backup tapes that contained emails sought by investigators.

Koskinen said Tuesday his employees never knowingly discarded evidence during the investigation.

“No one purposefully destroyed those tapes,” Koskinen said.

Sen. Tim Scott expressed concern that a “culture” of intimidation within the IRS has not changed under Koskinen’s leadership.

Koskinen was also asked about recent news reports that the IRS was using cell site simulators to trace the location of mobile phones, as a number of other law enforcement agencies do. He confirmed the IRS’s Criminal Investigation unit is using the cell phone tracking technology, but said it was only being used in criminal cases such as those tied to money laundering and terrorism.

So this is the GOPe’s bread and circus to distract from the fact they completely caved on the budget and try to throw a bone to the base?

And Chaffetz, the moronic GOPe marionette, is dutifully putting forward that distraction.

“It’s very evident that [Koskinen] engaged, or at least was overseeing, obstruction,” Palmer said back in July. “And obstruction by itself would be justification for removing the commissioner from his position.”

Chaffetz said it was under Koskinen that the IRS erased backup tapes that held 24,000 Lerner emails. He added that the commissioner “provided false and misleading information” when he testified before Congress about giving the body all relevant emails to its investigation of Lerner.

Koskinen also hid from Congress that Lerner’s emails were missing in February 2014 when it turned out that the messages had been deleted by the agency a month later, Chaffetz claimed, adding that Congress was told of the missing emails four months after they were deleted.

Palmer, Chaffetz and 51 other congressmen sent a letter to President Barack Obama in July urging Obama to fire Koskinen but the president didn’t respond.

Nothing more than a distraction while they ram through Obama’s deal.

About time. DOJ is a criminal organization so congress needs to do something to maintain lawful law.

He also acknowledged his agency is still holding up a “handful” of tea party groups’ applications — including one that’s been waiting for nearly six years, The Washington Times reported earlier this week.

And he said he hopes to have new rules to limit political activities of nonprofit organizations in place before the 2016 election, raising the specter of another major fight over the tax agency and political targeting.
