The Budget Deal Is A Disaster For Republicans
The Federalist ^ | October 28,2015 | David Harsanyi

For another thing, conservatives will almost surely see this as a betrayal. The administration came up with the idea of sequestration, and it turned out to be only tangible victory Republicans could claim on spending.

You might remember the 2010 Pledge to America that promised to roll back government spending to pre-stimulus/bailout levels, cutting at least $100 billion in the first year after taking power. Republicans failed to achieve this improbable goal. And almost every year since, government spending has gone up, though the GOP keeps adding seats by promising to achieve the opposite. So the central question is: how is ceding this fight to Obama supposed to make life easier for Ryan? This is a guy who will begin his term reopening the Ex-Im Bank and perhaps the worst fiscal policy defeat since Obamacare. Won’t conservatives expect Ryan to try and stop the deal even before he takes the gavel? Marco Rubio opposes. Rand Paul will filibuster. Why isn’t Ryan doing anything?

If Ryan opposes the deal in substance — and as of this writing he hasn’t said he does — then the theater he’s starring in right now doesn’t make it sound like he’s going to do anything about it. Most of protests from the GOP about the budget deal, at least publicly, have focused on the lack of participation and process, not substance. Ryan made a big production of noting that the “top-down and crisis-driven” agenda of his longtime ally Boehner will no longer be the way leadership operates.

So what else is new? Those conservatives who’ve held on to the fantasy that the GOP will reform itself can walk away for good now.

Ryan becoming Speaker with an F rating by Conservative Review is more evidence, not that we need more, of “Conservatives” in Congress being shy, spineless and intimidated. Job one up there for each one is to “get rich”! To do that, you can’t rock the boat or their system will step on you.

If the Democratic Party lost every seat in the house AND the Senate and all there was sitting in the seats were smiling republicans NOTHING would change. Both houses are OWNED by BIG MONEY whether it be corporations, individuals or foreign nation states.

They will not fix themselves. A political fix is a myth. It will NEVER happen.

We can bitch all we want but the only answer is to primary them and it is very difficult with the low interest voters. Mitch McConnell was just reelected for Christs’ sake.

“Time to light up the phones again and call your congressmen and senators about this piece of crap “deal”.”

No, it is a waste of time and effort. My GOP Congresswoman knows exactly what she is doing as do my two GOP Senators. On every issue, when I speak to my Congresswoman I’m told that I am misinformed and need to understand the big picture. She has stopped holding in person town hall meetings with constituents because she doesn’t want to take the flack. She now occasionally holds a “virtual” town hall which allows her to respond to any question with canned talking points while her handlers cut off the questioner. She will continue to campaign with conservative talking points and then vote with the leadership until she retires or a Democrat wins the office. The party machinery, and her big campaign coffers, will keep her from being challenged for as long as she wishes to run.

The GOP is representing those who fill the campaign coffers, not the people. I have no expectation the party can be reformed and I will no longer vote for the lesser evils. At this point I’d rather vote for a Democrat because the Dems actually mean what they say and fight for their positions. The GOP is worse in that it actively enables the march to tyranny while pretending to defend the Republic.

In 2016 I’ll vote 3rd party or write-in for Congress or Senate and likely for President if Cruz or Trump isn’t on the GOP ticket.

Since so many Republicans are democrats at heart, they really don't care and are more apt to laugh in their constituents' faces than think they may be off base.

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to Cruz

Ryan should know better than to sign on to what is basically an abdication of the Constitutional responsibility of the House of Representatives. The control of the purse strings was not intended as a prescription for compromising with usurpers.
