“Citing the confidentiality of the requested documents and the integrity of the scientific process, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said it won’t give Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) what he recently subpoenaed about the research.”

Good, I agree with NOAA. I’d probably give Congress the finger too. As long as they refuse to use their only weapon and zero out the budget for NOAA, why should Congress expect anyone do -anything- but laugh at them?

“The main problem with this denied request for information is not stubborn NOAA bureaucrats imo. The main problem is a corrupt Congress that refuses to use either its constitutional “power of the purse,” Clause 1 of Section 7 of Article I, or its power to impeach to deal with stubborn government bureaucrats.”

Exactly.

Next step: issue subpoenas.

If they refuse those, forward citations for contempt of congress. If they are cited, forward those citations to a federal judge to issue sanctions. Then go down to the next person on the list.

Make it very clear ahead of time that if they are cited for contempt of congress, they should expect to be barred from any future employment with the US government *or* employment with contractors of the US government.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientifictechnological elite. - Eisenhower’s “Military-Industrial Complex” Speech

If government won’t give us what we pay for, then we better stop paying.

Arrest the board members of the Noah unless they actually produce the necessary documentation. Holdem incommunicado for a minimum sentence of 90 days one or two of them will get the message.

When people aren’t held accountable for their actions, they become the ones in charge.
