They’re just sleeping. I shared it with my family and told them to look for our grandparents. My mom’s parents may not have been here yet, come to think of it.

My mom's would have missed it by about 20 years. But great-grandma could have been there. Although she would have been in a stroller.

I bet those horses really did not appreciate those guys at the corner running up to squeegee them.

in all my genealogy research I had only previously seen one of those videos.
I miss the time I spent doing genealogy research. I was able to get a photo and a copy of a grandfather's diary as a union POW in a confederate camp. Not sure if his photo was originally painted, but my wife claims to see a resemblance.
Also read a clipping about another grandfather who was murdered over money he made selling a cow.

Think about how different life was. Not socially so much as just the basic every day things. And the horses pooping all over?
My parents from Italy lived like that. They never saw a flush toilet until they came the USA!
(Speech here, ran to the Naturalization office the minute they were eligible to become citizens)

Wow, nice find. I discovered my gggGF's request for a Civil War pension (disability) due to his loss of hearing. He was artillery.
Ironically, a hundred years later, I was Marine Corps artillery and I too now have a VA disability due to a hearing loss & tinnitus.

Thank you so much! I really enjoyed that. So much remains the same and yet so much is different as well.

Pretty awesome to think that parts of them, so very long ago, live on through us.

My family research showed that one of my ancestors was a Civil War draft dodger. Sort of like believing you’re related to George Washington and finding out your real cousin is Benedict Arnold.

Thank you very much for this post.... I loved every minute of it.
Other than a few connecting flights many decades ago, I have never been to NY, but my moms’ parents were born and raised there and they moved to the west coast in the late 30s.
My grandmother never lost her love for NY and the City. I could hear her stories as I watched this video. I’ll never go to NY, too damn many libs today, but the vid was fun to watch.
