In “Innocents Abroad”, Mark Twain writes of a night time walk through Greek vineyards and olive groves and everywhere being preceded by an alarm and greeted by armed men looking out for orchid thieves. (Which were his intentions.) Apparently, almost all Greek farmers were armed and rightly suspicious of strangers afoot at night.

How much more will it take for us to explode?

I don’t think either we or the germans have the guts or gumption to do it. For sure not the germans with their rigid obeyance of laws of every kind.

The tradition of an armed citizen militia is as age old as civilization; having been employed under various names by the Biblical civilizations, the Greek city states, the Roman Republic, and the Fyrd of the Anglo-Germanic tribes in Europe and in Britain.

The man in the center of that painting, te one pointing the long gun down, looked to me to be holding a shovel because the shape of his left leg stocking.

I had to examine it closely, it just didn’t make sense for him to be holding a shovel.

(I just got outta bed though-no coffee yet.)

But, the more we dig into American History, the more examples we find that the Founding Fathers used principles from the nation of Israel "God's chosen people" to build America upon.

Pull out a map of the Southern parts of the United States and cities across the region are dotted with names from the Old Testament...

The Suffolk Resolves and all other references to arms were well in vogue in England at this time and date to the 1100s with the “Assize of Arms” by Henry the 2nd that said ALL MEN must bear arms.

If anyone is looking for a good program, Pastor and Oklahoma State Representative DAN FISHER'S presentation of "Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment" brings the Revolutionary War to life! Fisher also displays his personal Revolutionary War Collection.

I have had the opportunity to meet and to listen to Pastor Fisher more than once. He is a compelling and engaging speaker, and I found his presentations fascinating and very well researched. I also have his books on this subject Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment Volumes 1 & 2 (though they are currently sitting in my "read this next" queue), copies of which I purchased as a gift for my Socialist "minister" brother-in-law, though I have no reason to believe that he ever even opened the covers.

And to shoot the government. Seriously, that is the primary reason.

The beauty of the Second Amendment is this: Armed citizens ensured the government would never become so over-bearing, tyrannical and abusive because the government knows The People are armed and would not put up with that sort of nonsense.

Armed citizens have the ultimate veto power of the government, without it, we have no ultimate veto power and the government can run amok unchecked and without fear.

God’s miraculous hand on American history should be taught in churches. Children attending public school or private schools for that matter will never learn the truth about the Revolutionary War and the Founding Fathers.

“The arms were intended for hunting, and for protection.”

Yes. They were designed to kill men, and were handy for killing game.

The first cannon employed by the ‘resistence’ were from private owners ... yes, state of the art weaponry was in private ownership hands.

Israel?

No wonder the Libs hate it so much, then.

You lib friend is correct. All they have to do in NYC, Chicago or other murder capitol is just do a total ban on guns, which includes the cops. All gun violence will soon disappear simply because there are no more cowboys or gangsters.

Libs are such deep thinkers.

But, the more we dig into American History, the more examples we find that the Founding Fathers used principles from the nation of Israel "God's chosen people" to build America upon.

The concepts of private property ownership, local representative government, universally applied laws of justice, and other guaranteed rights not given by government all come from the pages of the Old Testament and found their way into our founding documents.

It's no wonder that the left hates both the USA and Israel, too much God for them.

You wrote, “Armed citizens have the ultimate veto power of the government, without it, we have no ultimate veto power and the government can run amok unchecked and without fear.” America has reached the stage when the reality is beyond US as a veto power. We cannot veto the corrupt government because it is too large and too inavise of our communities, and has amassed at least two armies better equipped than we with which ‘it’ can force us to remain passive to their corruptions. They also control the election process and the though patterns of the masses, as evidence3d by the number of government dependents who will vote as they are instructed to vote, to keep the largesse flowing.

‘inavise’ ... INVASIVE, as in federal regulations and tens of thousands of FEDERAL laws we must obey, few of which the government criminals feel obliged to obey. America is a ruled people, we are no longer the sovereigns.

It was also suspicion of standing armies and preference for a militia of the people for defense. Somewhat akin to Eisenhower’s fears over the combined and quasi-secret power of a military and industrial complex. The author focused on the militant Old Testament Christianity of New England and the sense of America as the New Zion, which is valid of course. But I think you’re right that politics and recent experience with His Majesty’s forces are why the amendment protecting the citizens’ rights to be armed is second only to and the explicit guarantor of conscience and speech.
