A friend described what he thought this phenomenon was several years ago to me and I haven’t heard a better explanation.
The rich have got theirs (riches, power, status) and they don’t want anyone else to get theirs. They enjoy the elite and rarified status and want it to stay exclusively theirs.
No problem, just void all copyrights, patents and license rights for Micro$oft....

I'm not; here's why. A podcast I listen to about food and science issues; had a scientist on the last version.
He spoke about the human genome project that took 10 years to do; was completed in 2003. Cost tens of millions (at least).
The scientist said with all the advances in this field that have been made; something similar could now be done in a day for maybe $1,000.
I think Rush has this mentality right. It’s sort of like the capos handing over Jews thinking they might be exempted. These rich guys think “Hey, if I’m on the side of the Bolsheviks, they won’t hurt me!!”
He only supports socialism because he is committed to John Holdren’s vision of reducing the population by 90% through vaccinations and other mediums...
Gates is right. Capitalism cannot save us from the CO2 fairy. Capitalism tends to be reality based. It tends to be optimistic. That is no way to save us from impending judgement by mother earth.
Bill Gates is remarkably stupid for someone who is a genius.

He must feel guilty about having all that money and wants to destroy America and Capitalism to ease his warped conscience.

Bill, put away the children's episodes of Bill Nye the Anti-Science Guy.
He doesn't know as much as REAL Scientists do about AGW. Watch a puppet show, you will learn more. Kukla knows more about actual Science than Bill Nye, Man Bear Pig, Obama, the pope and Fuhrer Sheldon “Adolf” Whitehouse combined...
...and that's when he doesn't even have a hand inside him!
Why would some people like Gates and Buffett be so enamored of socialism/communism?
Cleon Skousen, who wrote “The Naked Communist” which laid out all of the communist goals for America, wrote another book about the aforementioned phenomenon, “The Naked Capitalist”. No doubt Rush read these books and knows exactly what makes these people tick, and broadcast it today on his radio show.

Capitalism might allow others to do what he did, and being a good little elitist, that is wholly unacceptable to him. He much prefers crony statism so he can be protected from competition.

Gates stole CP/M from Gary Kildall - he must think other “capitalist” entities all succeeded the same way.
Bill Gates was always a difficult person to like. That hasn’t changed.
