Santorum targets Cruz on immigration

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum took aim Monday at a rival who has been getting a lot of buzz in Iowa lately, Sen. Ted Cruz.

Santorum said Cruz, a Texas Republican, falls short on immigration.

Santorum, who is lagging in the polls, was in Davenport on Sunday night for a house party. Monday morning, he spoke to about two dozen people at Scott County Republican Party headquarters.

The former Pennsylvania senator, who has made curbs on immigration a key part of his campaign, renewed complaints that Cruz has proposed a significant increase in the number of H-1B visas, which are aimed at luring people with advanced degrees to the U.S.

The comment came in response to a questioner who insisted that Santorum should take on Democrats more forcefully on the issue.

"It's not just the Democrats. It's Democrats and Republicans," Santorum said. "It's Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and, yes, it's Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz wants to take the H-1B program and increase it by 500 percent. He wants to go from 65,000 to 330,000. Again, 'Mr. Conservative.' Everybody (says) how conservative he is. He wants to increase it by five times."

Santorum says the program is used to bring in cheap labor and costs U.S. citizens job opportunities. In addition to opposing illegal immigration, Santorum has separated himself from much of the GOP field by also saying legal immigration ought to be limited.

Santorum also said that an amendment Cruz offered to a bipartisan immigration reform bill two years ago would have allowed people in the country illegally to stay after the border was secured.

The Cruz campaign did not immediately reply to a request for a response. But Cruz has previously said high-skilled immigrants generate jobs and productivity and there is a shortage of high-skilled workers in the U.S.

Not so worried about educated & talented people. I’m more worried about the free-loaders. My husband lost a part-time teaching job to a guy who could barely speak English so this issue has affected me personally in a financial way. Yes it angered us but I am more worried about muslim immigration, criminal illegals and freeloading illegals who have nothing to offer but take much. Ted Cruz will follow the law. I know this because of his history.

We need to go after the employers who are abusing these visas and Cruz already talked about that.

I have a slate of candidates to choose from. Cruz has fewer negatives and more positives for me than any other candidate. In addition he has a voting record that I may not 100% agree with all the time but it’s something I can look at and compare to what he says. I can’t do that with several other candidates. I’d have to believe everything they said and I don’t.

Ted Cruz will follow the law.

The law is broken:

H-1B Is Designed to Allow Employers to Replace Americans with Cheap Foreign Workers
H-1B Is Designed to Allow Employers to Pay Foreign Workers Extremely Low Wages

should we talk about one of Mrs. Trump’s past jobs?

Yes. Which one?

Cruz’s positon on expanding legal immigration, specifically H1-B visas has held me back from “cutting checks” and giving him my full support like I did when he ran for senate here.

For what it is worth. There seems to be an interest with some about the candidate’s wives and their previous jobs.

You bet they are broken! He talked about this recently. There certainly have been abuses of the law and it needs tweaking. Urgently.

However, if the laws were being followed as intended we wouldn’t have the problems we are having. The list of broken laws since this presidency is very long indeed and probably goes back even further than this administration. That is why I think it is important that we elect a strict Constitutionalist who understands the law and believes in enforcing it. This is something that Ted Cruz had been doing before he was elected to the Senate. His record in that area is quite impressive.

No, that's my point: the laws ARE being followed as actually intended by their drafters of both parties (although not as they were sold to the voters).

According to current Trumpster 'logic', since you were discussing Melania's nude pics before the Utah PAC ad came out, you must have been in on it. Confess! /s
