That wasn’t the question Cruz was asked. It was the smokescreen setup for a question in the form we heard all night, i.e. “Aren’t you an awful presidential candidate if not a completely terrible person? Please respond.”

And Cruz did address the issue about the budget deal later on when he was given more time.
