I saw the missile from S.F. area and what’s seen on the video is not an explosion. The missile fuel is continuing to burn as a small point and the trailing exhaust smoke is aglow from the intense brightness of the engine. Perspective as the missile is tracking away and climbing, and accelerating can mislead an unexpecting observer. The missile is doing something most of us have never seen, climbing AND accelerating to somewhere just beyond the speed of stink!

Do not confuse and dismay the "true believers". They are convinced they saw an explosion, where anyone that has seen a missile launch at dusk knows how strange the exhaust plume gets when the missile exits the atmosphere.

Just think at the panic if it had been earlier in the afternoon so the smoke trail would have been visible and had high altitude winds to twist it all about! The UFO and other theories would never quit.

I had the pleasure of living in Ventura county and being on the Vandenburg launch listserv so I had a tip for all the upcoming launches. Some were quite memorable, many like this, classified so you only saw them as they happened.

Certainly seems odd to test it like that. I’m used to seeing pictures fro Kwajalein Atoll or wherever when they test ICBM warheads.

I read a long time ago, the Trident missile (don’t know which model) is exceeding 13,000 mph two minutes after launch. Sub-orbital velocity may indeed be higher, when the platform rotates (PAM) to kick off the warheads.

Would have been so sweet to turn the key in CIC for that launch

[Too much strange stuff going on lately, seems to be leading up to something I don’t think we are going to like.]

I have the same feeling for a couple of reasons.

Here’s hoping we’re just completely wrong. That would be how I prefer it.

They are saying this had a dummy warhead. I would not expect them to be tossing live nukes around that close to anyone.

Plus we stopped above ground testing decades ago.

I watched the whole video but did not see a debris field of secondary glowing objects, but then maybe it was too far away to see such detail.

Maybe they blew up a Chinese of Norkie missile test ?

Could just have easily tested the D5 off the coast of FL and the downrange there. Has happened a lot, with the Cape there and people.... used to this. But not in the land of fruits and nuts.

And, it didn’t “explode” at 28 secs. That is stage separation and angular light view of the rocket. Anyone who watched any clear sky launch from the Cape, heading for orbit, knows this- well documented. 3 stages on the D5, btw. The 3rd stage is way, way up in a normal offensive trajectory.

Fairly certain we shared this with the Russkies in any case because their, and our satellites (and the chicoms) could see the launch.

But not in the land of fruits and nuts.

Remember that the vast majority of human fruits and nuts in CA are transplants from the Midwest, the South, and the Eastern Seaboard. Nancy Pelosi was born, raised, and educated in the eastern U.S. and moved to CA. It's true of nearly all of our worst leftists (Jerry Brown is an exception); on the other hand, CA's most staunch conservatives, such as Tom McLintock, are 4th and 5th generation natives.

This was not a missile test.

It scared the shiite out of people on the west coast...could have caused heart attacks or head on collisions. But the Navy says they couldn't announce it because it was under tight security. Well, security was blown when it went off.

My bullsh!t meter is running out of battery charge on this one.
