President Obama has junked the Keystone XL pipeline. His stated reason: The U.S. needs to lead the "serious action to fight climate change." His real reason is different.
'America," Obama said, is "now a global leader" in the climate war, "and frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership."
He insists now is the time to "protect the one planet we've got while we still can." Though his rhetoric will resonate with those who want to hear that sort of bunkum, the rest of us recognize its vast emptiness.
Obama's decision Friday was based on nothing more than political opportunity. The announcement was timed to coincide with the United Nations climate talks, which begin in Paris at the end of the month, and shaped to make him look like a strong leader.
As usual, it was all about Obama, who craves the international approval and domestic back-pats he will get for being such a forward thinker.
But here's what we have learned through almost seven years of his presidency -- when it's all about Obama, the rest of us generally get a boot to the head. In the instance of his Keystone decision, we're talking lost jobs and energy prices that will be higher than they should be.
Let's start with jobs. TransCanada, the company that was to build the Keystone XL pipeline connecting the oil fields of Alberta, Canada, with the crude refineries on our Gulf coast, says "the $8 billion project will create 9,000 well-paying construction jobs."
If that estimate seems too self-serving, consider that in its Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, the State Department said in March that more than 40,000 jobs would be spun off from the project during construction.

When has it never been ‘all about Obama?’
Trump and Cruz and the others need to hammer this point home over and over, because it summarizes the core of our national problem.
What lunacy. Climate war?
Over the next 20 years, would moving oil by a pipeline or rail put more CO2 in the atmosphere?
Obama also said no to the Keystone Pipeline in order to further ingratiate himself with the environmentalist wackos who give vast sums of money to the moonbat rat politicians.
Yeah, we will just ignore the fact that this makes no scientific sense whatsoever. Just like global warming, or man-made climate change, or whatever it’s called now.
>>Climate war?
The war against the productive by the looter classes at the top and bottom of the economy.
Distraction from ground war in Syria.
Because of his elderly butt boy Buffet
Warren Buffet’s oil train had another spill yesterday. How many hundreds of thousands in penalties will he pay for his negligence and harm to the environment? Inquiring minds want to know.
Between Buffet’s crashing oil trains and the EPA’s poisoning of three western rivers, these two entities are in a dead heat for Polluter of the Year, while the lying president says he vetoed the XL pipeline to protect the environment.
Also Warren Buffet’s rail company makes $2.5 billion for every year Keystone is not built.
a) Weakens America/AmericansThere are NO counter examples.
b) Distances America's allies
c) Strengthens America's enemies
d) Attacks Christianity
e) Serves Islam
f) Harms Israel
Or some combination of the above.
if ya think obunghole is a horrible turd now, wait til his fellow mooselimb countries elect him head of the U.N.
Wrong...its all about one donor who is pouring Millions into the DNC.
Same reason the RATS are pushing gun control. One donor.
One of the things that Big Blow did when they came to my neck of the cornfields was to convince everyone that they would be creating lots and lots of local jobs.
As it turned out, the construction was done by travelling crews, moving on to the next project when this one was finished. Even local union boys were squeezed out of the project, even though they were some of the ones pushing for it.
The permanent jobs went to those already in the industry. Not one single permanent job was created for anyone in the community.
Wasn’t this the first installment of Who is John Galt?
Real reason for this is the Democrats largest donor (Warren Buffet) owns the trains that carries the crude. Build a pipeline and gone are the donations to Democrats.
Nothing magical here. Thing is, no one is saying it.
Once you accept the fact Obama is against America, EVERYTHING he does makes sense.
Also Warren Buffet’s rail company makes $2.5 billion for every year Keystone is not built.
Thank you! Was just about to post.....And, here I thought it was due to Warren Buffet’s $Billion tank rail-car purchase ;-)
Obama may have turned down the Keystone Pipeline for other reasons, but his primary reason is taking care of his buddy, Warren Buffett. IMO
