As a former Navy amphib sailor there were never four months in a row I was not serving with Marines. God bless the Corps.
An old squid myself with a Reservist designator, I never ran into Marines in my little corner of the Navy, but I was always conscious of the Mahan Doctrine, to keep foreigners and their wars off the soil of the United States.
I was always conscious that the Navy had two functions: To keep foreign forces on the other side of the world's oceans from America, and to be the long arm that delivers the steel fist of the United States Marine Corps wherever Congress and the President may direct.
