My Mizzou gear went in the trash today
Fine with me.
It will be fun to see what they do to make up the lost revenue. Nothing must get between the academic mind and its cushy sinecure.
I would expect that - if football is eliminated - the financial slack will be taken up by some kind of program making undergraduates available for social purposes to wealthy individuals who are willing to make a significant contribution to the University Fund.
The program would be "gender neutral" of course. At least on paper.
Reminds me of the movie “Revenge of the Nerds”, where the football coach (and team) basically ran the campus. That is until the end when the nerdish College president finally grew a pair.
Will consistently pull against them going forward.
Haven’t watched college football in 30 years. College ball is corrupt and nothing more than a taxpayer/alumni funded farm system for the NFL. Want a “champion” college football team? Supply plenty of women, cars, booze, steroids, and cash. “Student Athletes” my hind end.
Couldn’t care less what they do, how many college administrators they get fired, or how political they get. I don’t watch and I don’t care.
Should be interesting come NFL draft time.
The legacy of Michael Sam.
What will happen if they no longer attended the games?
They can talk all day about how important college football is to the universities, but you still need people in the seats and eyeballs to the televisions.
My prediction is that attendance is going to decline, starting with Saturday's game against BYU. The silent majority is watching the events and taking notice. No parent, who are going to be middle-class and white, are going to risk their lives attending a Mizzou home game.
An alumni boycott of the rest of the season would send a message, as would a bunch of people quitting the alumni association.
Every football player that participated in this circle jerk protest should have had his scholarship cancelled and been expelled from MU. ...Alumna donors should stop giving funds.
Same should occur at other schools that are inspired by the results at MU to do anything similar.
I know that football programs in Div-1 schools bring in the dollars that fund most of their athletic programs, but the people running the schools can’t cave in to a minority of the student body just because they claim their feelings were hurt.
