VA gave 156,000 employees $142 million in bonuses in 2014
Washington Examiner ^ | November 11, 2015 | Anna Giaritelli

The Department of Veterans Affairs VA shelled out more than $142 million in performance bonuses in 2014, the same year that the VA's healthcare scandal exploded and revealed the VA was systematically denying veterans access to health care.

The average individual payout was over $900 for the thousands of employees. A total of 156,000 VA workers qualified for bonuses as a result of being rated them "fully successful" or higher at carrying out their responsibilities last year, including officials at delay-prone hospitals. But those ratings were later found to be inflated, as the vast majority of workers were getting rated highly enough to get a bonus.

More than 325 were compensated with $5,000 to $13,000 in year-end bonuses, according to data given to the Washington Examiner by the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.

When will this stop? Privatize all that is abused. USA Today has more details if interested. Not allowed to publish anything but a link so I found another source for the thread.

One day, this Leftist institution and all other Leftist institutions will be nothing more than rubble, and any complicit in the existence of these Leftist institutions will be listed alongside the Rosenbergs as traitors who got what they deserved.

Why is anybody at the VA getting any bonuses in the first place? It’s not like it’s some sort of commissioned sales job.

Do your job, get a paycheck. Don’t do your job, get fired. In a sane world, that’s the way it would work.

$1,000,000,000 for a $200,000,000 VA hospital in Denver.

$400,000 in moving expenses for two VA employees.

And they’ll fight a Veteran to the death for a nickel.

Maybe the bonuses are for denying disability claims. The more claims you reject and deny (thus saving obama’s VA money to use elsewhere, say... planned parenthood...for example) the more bonus money you get. This is how cynical I have become sadly.

I’ve never understood why Federal employees get bonuses, especially since we pay their salaries. Does anybody know when this frivolous practice came to be?

This “bonus” stuff has to stop.

Most of these people do not even do a normal day’s work. They get all kinds of other perks too .. some of which are not necessary. They do make more money than non-fed workers do.

And .. if they make a mistake or screw up .. oh well .. and nothing is done about it.

THIS KIND OF IDOIOCY HAS GOT TO STOP.

Apart from the enlistment bonus, no member of the military ever gets a bonus, not even after a medal that I know of. Gov employee bonus is total BS.

I spent 15 years in the Army reenlisting 3 times, and the only thing I got was choice of duty assignment...and that was only once. Now, my son is in the Air national Guard and he got a decent bonus for Security Forces and in state tuition.

Why do any government employees get “performance bonuses” of any kind?
I’ll relent on giving out bonuses to government employees when they give up “civil service protections,” so we can fire those who do not do their job. As it stands, we don’t even get what we’re paying for with the base pay that they receive, then we give thousands of them “bonuses,” while the underperformers probably get them as well. It’s just political patronage.

As far as I know only members of the Senior Executive Service (so-called “super-grades”, greater then GS 15) get bonuses. Maybe in the VA “hard-to-hire” specialties like medical doctors do also.

Also I think that SES pay is still capped at $155,700 (GS15 Step 9) but they do get bonuses. I have never heard of a bonus over $5K, that doesn't mean they don't occur. I have never known anyone to get one.

Don’t forget all the illegals getting free health care.

Why do government workers get such large bonuses (and NEVER get fired)?

HUSH MONEY!

If the government were to fire them, THEY MIGHT TALK TO SOMEONE ON THE OUTSIDE ABOUT ALL THE CRIME AND CORRUPTION. So the gubmint keeps them on board to keep them silent.

“And they’ll fight a Veteran to the death for a nickel.”

Or they’ll get bonuses for letting vets die under their watch. The following article lists those reported but the VA reporting system can be accessed by anyone and changed without tracking as of 2013. Make a mistake? Change the report.

"As far as I know only members of the Senior Executive Service (so-called "super-grades", greater then GS 15) get bonuses."

Sure, the ones who don't actually do the work, get the bonuses. I know that the postal service gives bonuses to their supervisors. The postal clerks at one of the area offices told me that their supervisor would get a bonus if she cut costs at the office. In their case, it came to the supervisor cutting the hours of the workers to save the department money. And the supervisor was useless. I made the mistake of going there one day when she was the only one working the desk. The line was out the door because she had no idea what she was doing. I finally got tired of waiting, left, and went to another post office.
