Missed it by a country mile.
I was in Spain last week and the Spanish were on high alert...virtually everywhere there were seriously armed people on guard (even at the Teatro Real, the opera house, a pretty harmless venue). In the neighborhood where I usually stay, Chamberi, I went to the market on a side street and saw what would be the equivalent of our SWAT team hauling three or four obviously ME guys out of an apartment, hands on heads, and loading them into a van.
Later I read that several attacks had been stopped because the Spanish police believed from their intelligence that something was going to happen, so they rounded up anybody who was on the list.
The problem is that the French will often not accept Spanish intelligence and also there is still this bizarre problem over ETA (Basque separatists). It took a long time for the French to cooperate on ETA.
We all - Europeans, non-Europeans, Christians, non-Christians and even secularist atheists - have got to realize that we have one common enemy.
