The host of HBO’s ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ said of the tragic terrorist attacks in Paris: “bombing [ISIS] over there is what is causing the Paris thing to happen!”
On Friday evening, the City of Lights turned pitch black. Terrorists—in the form of masked suicide bombers and gunmen—massacred at least 160 people in a series of coordinated attacks across Paris.
An estimated 100 people were killed inside Le Bataclan, a concert hall in the 11th arrondissement, after a trio of terrorists armed with AK-47’s detonated explosive vests during a show by the American rock band Eagles of Death Metal. The suicide bombing followed a hostage standoff between the attackers and French police stationed outside the venue, with the madmen executing hostages one by one inside.
One eyewitness inside the Bataclan told the New York Times that one of the gunmen blamed the French president, yelling in French, “This is because of all the harm done by Hollande to Muslims all over the world.”
Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, which is filmed live, saw the political satirist address the people of Paris during his opening monologue.
“Before we get to the hilarity, we hope, I just want to see one thing to the people of Paris,” Maher said, before launching into an abbreviated version of French national anthem “La Marseillaise.”
“Now I’m not a very good singer,” added Maher, “but that’s my way of saying: We’re with you.”
Then, Maher welcomed journalist and author Asra Q. Nomani—a Daily Beast contributor, who is Muslim—for a sit-down interview prior to his panel. And Maher, as is his wont, laid into radical Islam.
“How could [liberals] not stand up against Sharia Law, which is the law in so many Muslim countries, which is the law of oppression?” Maher said.
“I am absolutely sure that ISIS thinks that everything they do—every horrific crime, every atrocity—is an act of justice, and an act for god,” he continued, later adding, “First of all, I’m not ‘demonizing,’ I’m characterizing. How did we get to this place where just describing something is demonizing, and I’m not so sure it’s a very small percentage. Maybe it’s a small percentage who carry out terrorist acts, but it’s not a small percentage who believe in some of the illiberal ideas that support terrorists.”
During the panel portion of the broadcast, Maher got into the Paris massacre.
“When the Charlie Hebdo thing happened and the week after everyone said ‘Je Suis Charlie,’ not really. They didn’t really stick with them like Asra and I were just talking about,” said Maher. “I’m going to ask you this question that people asked after 9/11, because I don’t think we still know the answer: Why do they hate us?”
The panel then fell silent—before panelist Dylan Ratigan brought up the U.S. funding Saudi Arabia as one reason that Islamic terrorists are upset with America.
“That’s not what terrorists say,” said Maher. When you capture one, or when they leave a note, you know what they say? Because you’re in Muslim lands. I have a crazy idea: Why don’t we get out of Muslim lands?”
Maher then shifted the discussion to ISIS, with the host contending that you “can’t completely wipe out all your enemies.” Later on, in what is sure to be the most controversial line of the night, Maher suggested that bombing ISIS in the Middle East is what caused the Paris attacks to happen.
Come on guys he did a good job on this over all. I agree that is a mistake but I have heard him before clarify the differences between Christian god and Allah.
During the World Series, I saw Maher and Michael Moore sitting together wearing Mets’ gear. “Figures”, I thought. The “Blame Amerika First” crowd has a lot to answer for.
Bingo! Posting of the Day!
Regards,
Has this fool ever reproduced? I sure hope not.
No no no! Killing the Barbary pirates caused the Paris attacks.
So he does not see a link between unilateral rape in Syria and unilateral attacks in Paris?
Indeed, he feeds into the muslim retribution mentality. They still fight over there over slights done to this or that caliph 500 years ago.
Liberals. They are pu$$ies.
Jihad started with Mohammed. What slight were they slaughtering over then when they hadn’t even existed before?
It's because liberals are self destructive. They embrace Muslims for votes, therefore covering them under their umbrella of "tolerance." This is like allowing a registered pedophile to babysit your kids.
Plus the Muslims see liberals as useful idiots. A perfect match. Liberals are ready made Dhimmi.
He is probably correct, but it also means that bombing ISIS is drawing blood.
More bombs.
The jugular though is Saudi Arabia. Eliminate the House of Saud and you eliminate ISIS.
I thought it was Hillary, Obama, and McCain providing aid and comfort to the Islamists in the “arab spring” that caused these attacks.
So he’s backed off on his attacks on Islamonazism once again.
I guess Hitler wasn’t to blame for his actions because of the negotiations that ended WWI.
No, Maher, you’re not more relevant than those slaughtered in Paris.
What, you can't easily own firearms, they have limits on magazine size, and there are no gun shows? Then how did this mass shooting happen? It must be Republicans....France has lots of Republicans.....Oh, they aren't part of the Republican Party? (/sarcasm)
I remember back in the early 80’s I was not that politically aware, and I got letters from Pat Robertson and the 700 club asking for Special prayer because they were having a lot of trouble with muslim terrorists attacking childrens schools in Africa. They didn’t want the girls educated, and they were killing the girls and teachers. The letters were written from the point of view of “You might find this surprising that teachers are the targets”.
I was surprised. I had never heard of this before, and I daresay others hadn’t either, unless they maybe worked in the area. I mean, Iran had happened, under Carter, but the idea of wholesale attacks where teachers and aid workers were being killed was new. This was before the hijackings, Leon Klinghoffer, or anything else. Pat Robertson sent several more letters warning of radical Islam.
I know a lot of people don’t like him but he opened my eyes very early to this. I’ve been trying to wake my family up forever to the threat of radical Islam and it’s been impossible. Even on DU tonight seems they are finally getting a wakeup call. That says a lot. They don’t wakeup about much there. I mean, a few are fighting the good fight - how dare they blame the refugees - but a few are seeing the light - Islam is proving to be very, very, dangerous - you hug that snake at your own peril.
What Mahler fails to realize is that Muslims have a goal of world domination. Anything that they look at is Muslim land.
They think ISRAEL is muslim land. It isn’t.
Anything that was once Christian, they knock it down, stick a crescent on it, oops - it’s muslim.
The Jewish Temple of David is muslim - if a Jew comes anywhere near it they throw a fit. Every Christian landmark where Jesus lived is now a “Muslim” city, like Bethlehem. Constantine the Great Christian emperor’s capital city and his crowning church, St Sophia, is muslim. The whole of Turkey, which used to be the Seven Churches is muslim. Armenia, the 1st Christian nation is muslim. Ferdinand and Isabella finally threw them out of Spain and don’t think they EVER forgot THAT.
One day st peters will be muslim, as far as they are concerned.
The whole entire Middle East is now MUSLIM and it didn’t used to be. There used to be plenty of Christians and Jews there but they are working fast at killing them all.
They are world conquerers, dominators. One day they will be in America and claiming it as Muslim land, and maybe Bill Maher will even be alive to do a foolish double take. But they are taking over EVERYTHING for their moon god, and he should WAKE UP.
We get out of the middle east, and every muslim gets the hell out of the west and a deal might be considered.
What's so hard to understand, my naive Billy-boy?
