That is my reaction as well. I watched Trump's speech in TX this afternoon, and I thought I was watching a man who could not put his thoughts together; having seen him in the debates, it was unnerving. What Cruz said on FoxNEWS this morning, however, was exactly what needed to be said.
I have thought previously that Cruz is the better President and Trump the better candidate, but unless the Beaumont TX speech was a one-off, I may have to reconsider that now; I would be afraid to vote for Trump on the basis of that speech, if that were all I had seen of him.
I watched it and I liked it, especially the part where he had relatives of people killed by legals come up and tell their stories. Trump is the only one doing that and I am glad he is. The media has been studiously ignoring the crime that illegal immigration brings to our country for decades now. There is one reason that immigration is an issue this cycle and Cruz is not that reason. The subject may not have come up as a major issue if it were not for Trump. The truth is that Cruz will be exactly as tough on immigration as his donors let him and not one bit tougher.
The Beaumont speech was awesome....
....what were you watching?
What other candidate has given a voice to grieving parents, ignored by their president and the media?.....parents with dead children because of illegals.
What other candidate has the courage to say ‘bomb the **** out of Isis’
What other candidate has the nerve to say....’I will build a wall and Mexico will pay for it’ ?
What other candidate has put the emphasis on our military and wounded warriors?
Trump’s Texas speech was great - as hard on illegal immigration as he has always been. And he alone, until just recently Cruz joined in. But Trump is strong on deporting the illegals that are here, something Cruz only references along with ‘other’ solutions. Could be amnesty (anyone getting to stay at all is getting amnesty, no matter how politicians try to spin it.) Trump is beholden to nobody - he referenced that in his speech too - so he won’t be changing his mind from pressure from the Chamber of Commerce.
He was extremely entertaining, which is what it takes to get people to listen to you for an entire hour. If he just read from an outline, you’d say he was organized and his grammar was perfect - for the 5 minutes before the audience fell asleep.
Trump said from the beginning that Syrian refugees were a Trojan horse. He also said he would send them back. Long before anyone else, and stood alone - until proven right. Like with many other issues.
I am not sure what time the Presser was out, but Cruz detailed platform stance on immigration hit the wires on Friday. It’s solutions-based.
