Gun sales are at record levels. In the last six months, gun sales, as reflected by the National Instant Check system, have hit record highs for each of the six months. It is almost certain that 2015 will be the highest year on record for private gun sales in the United States. But when national polls ask how many households own guns, the numbers appear to be the same or dropping. How do we reconcile this seeming contradiction? The answer is likely in a Zogby Analytic question asked in February of 2015. From prnewswire.com:
QUESTION: "If a national pollster asked you if you owned a firearm, would you determine to tell him or her the truth or would you feel it was none of their business?"
Gallup recently released a poll showing that gun ownership had declined from polls they had taken in an earlier time period. That number is inconsistent with the number of firearms that have been sold since President Obama took residency, but the difference can be answered by the Zogby Analytic question above. The poll indicates maintaining anonymity is a contributing factor
- 36% of Americans feel it is none of the pollster's business and that includes 35% of current gun owners 47% of Republicans and 42% of Independents
If we take the lower number, 35%, and apply it to the lowest numbers for gun ownership from a national poll, found in the General Social Survey (GSS), we see that it implies that gun ownership is up, not down.

I sold all my guns to pay for my obamacare policy.
Have to figure what I am going to sell next year.
Because with the current regime trying to grab them, a lot remain "undocumented" - don't call them illegal!
I don’t believe that 35% of polled gun owners are lying on polls in a way that can’t be filtered out by the poll design. I am generally skeptical of all analysis that requires us to believe that polls have massive error built into them. The more likely explanation for why NICS checks don’t match up with GSS data on household gun ownership is that gun owning household are buying more and more guns.
I have lived in the mostly Black southside of Atlanta for 2.5 years now. As when I was in IL, I try to be observant of behavior that reflects political leanings.
So I watch for instances of open carry and concealed carry. I noticed a few bulges under shirts of both Black, White and Hispanics that I figured were concealed carry.
About the time that Bloombergs extremists attacked Kroger, I seemed to notice a significant increase in both concealed and open carry. Now, when I go into Kroger, Walmart or other store with many customers, I see at leas one concealed carry bulge for every 30 or 40 customers. And I see open carry in about 1 in 90 or 100 customers. The concealed carry are of all races, ages, and looks (long hair, short hair, beard, no beard, etc).
The open carry all seem to be in the late 20s/early 30s and military short hair cut... But they are in civies. They are shopping and given he way they relate to the uniform security guards, I doubt they are cops.
NICS.maybe?
I have absolutely no guns in my house!
If you don’t believe me, just come to see me about 3 am some morning and I’ll show you!...............
You don’t think women own guns?
Fat finger typing and reading dyslexia - a bad combination!
Interesting....but....Shhhhhhhhhhhh!
This can by used by the Fascists to sound the background check alarm......shhhhhh!
Flawed reasoning. I’m a female and have owned guns since I was 12 years old. I’m in my late seventies and still have several and about to buy another. i also own guns in Europe.
My mother and grandmother were also crack shots as well ass all of my aunts. there are a lot of “wimmins” who know one end of a gun from the other and we’re half the population.
You should at least believe that various groups of people systematically respond differently to pollsters.
Older people are far more likely to talk with pollsters than any other age group. The hard part is keeping them on topic.
Conservatives are far more likely than any other demographic to hang up on pollsters. The hard part is estimating just how many of them we miss because they won’t talk with us.
There are many other systematic errors in polling, even before you introduce pollster-initiated errors.
Perhaps he was paddling to the gunshow.
Married people owning guns count as two. I think my wife might have more than me.
I think the pollsters are asking the wrong questions
First question should be...”Have you had any tragic boat accidents recently?”.
Much more telling...
Unfortunately I lost all mine in a freak canoe tipping accident.....bummer.
*********************************************************************
Red neck that I am.
For me it was a cow tipping accident.
Was asked about wearing a seatbelt -
I asked what that had to do with my flu shot...
*******************************************************************
I got asked that same question on a visit to a neurologist. I asked her what that had to do with anything, she said, “we have to ask”. She never asked me any more stupid questions after that one. I found it quite odd, to say the least.
“Freak” accident? You really thought a canoe would float with that many guns in it?
WHAT WAS I THINKING!!
**** “Was asked about wearing a seatbelt -
I asked what that had to do with my flu shot...
Then I said - donât ask me any more questions like that.” ****
When they asked me on a Beach why I was standing there, I told them that as soon as they left I was gonna take a leak, the whole looking at the water thing was a ploy.
They laughed, they left, I continued on w my business. It was actually a risky thing to do, I lucked out, that time.
I now carry a stack of my Lawyers Cards... why not... I paid big bucks just so he would answer the phone. That would be his Business PH #
If I call his Private # he wouldn’t answer at night, that means we just saw each other and I stole/borrowed his Girlfriend or I wanted to tell him his karaoke was off, either way he wouldn’t want to speak to me until morning.
