Reeling from the arrest of a respected community leader, more than 100 people packed City Hall on Monday to try to get answers and assuage their fears that nothing similar would happen to them.
Afraid of being snatched by immigration authorities, the mostly indigenous migrants from Oaxaca, Mexico, skipped work or refused to send their children to school. Their fear comes from the arrest of Andres Cruz Garcia, a respected leader who was detained Thursday on suspicion of extortion.

Authorities arrested five suspects, including a juvenile, accused of bringing women to the United States from El Salvador, Nicaragua and Mexico. Investigators said women were forced to have sex to pay off their debt.
