MOSCOW (AP) — A homemade explosive device brought down a Russian passenger plane over Egypt last month, the head of Russia's FSB security service said Tuesday, telling President Vladimir Putin it's now clear the bombing that killed 224 people was a "terrorist" act.

Putin vowed to hunt down those responsible for the attack, which the Islamic State group claimed to have carried out. Two U.S. defense officials said Russia struck Raqqa, the Islamic State group's self-declared capital in Syria, with cruise missiles and bombs on Tuesday.

“Everyone who tries to aid the criminals should understand that they will be responsible for giving them shelter.”

That is the quote that is going to leave a mark. Not today. Probably not tomorrow. But it will.

When this first happened, I said it was not a bomb but due to poor maintenance.

It appears I was wrong.

You think the Russians will do anything about it?

While not in this article he also said: “We will hunt them down in every corner of the planet and we will punish them”

“Everyone who tries to aid the criminals should understand that they will be responsible for giving them shelter.”

I seem to recall that GWB said something similar after 9/11/01 and was roundly criticized by the vermin Left. Where is their outrage now?

The plane, an Airbus 320 suffered a serious tail-scrape on landing in 2001 when landing in Cairo. At the time, it was owned by a different carrier. It was out of service several months for repairs. A couple of other fatal crashes were caused by poor repairs of tail scrapes. Some suspected maybe it had a poor repair. Planes can fly for years with a poor repair before the repair might fail.

A couple of other plane crashes were caused by poor repairs of tail scrapes and those planes flew for years before the repair failed.

A 747, Japan Airlines Flight 123 suffered a tail scrape, poor repairs and crashed in 1985 as a result of it. Here’s the wikipedia story.

A China Airlines (Taiwan) Flight 611, a 747 had a similar tail scrape, poor repairs and crashed in 2002. Here’s the story on Wikipedia.

Did this plane have a history of damage from a tail strike?

Yes. It had a tail strike in 2001 in Cairo.

“Geoffrey Thomas, the Perth-based editor of Airlineratings.com, said he believed damage from a “tail-strike” during a heavy landing in Cairo 14 years ago was the most likely cause of Saturday’s crash that killed 224 people.”
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-04/evidence-points-to-tail-damage-being-likely-cause-of-plane-crash/6913122

“The aircraft, last registered as EI-ETJ (and on lease from ILFC to Kogalymavia, operating under the Metrojet brand) had been involved in a tail strike on November 1, 2001, when it flew as F-OHMP for Lebanese carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA). In what looked like an unstable approach to Cairo International Airport’s runway 5R, the aircraft suffered severe rear fuselage damage upon landing. The aircraft was subsequently repaired and returned to service in early 2002, no details about the repair have become public so far.”

Could be a bomb or could be it crashed from damage from the old tail strike. Depends if they found bomb damage or residue in the pieces of the crash. If the bomb went off in the part that also burned, maybe the residue evidence was destroyed.

I was with you too. With the repair history of the aft pressure bulkhead, I thought it was a repeat of the JAL 747 crash.

Oh well, after an investigative process, now we know.

Home made?

are there factory made explosive devices designed and constructed for bringing down commercial air liners?
