Ben Carson Is Struggling to Grasp Foreign Policy, Advisers Say
NY Times ^ | 11/17/15 | TRIP GABRIEL

Posted on 11/17/2015 3:13:59 PM PST by jimbo123

Ben Carson's remarks on foreign policy have repeatedly raised questions about his grasp of the subject, but never more seriously than in the past week, when he wrongly asserted that China had intervened militarily in Syria and then failed, on national television, to name the countries he would call on to form a coalition to fight the Islamic State.

Faced with increasing scrutiny about whether Mr. Carson - who leads in some Republican presidential polls - was capable of leading American foreign policy, two of his top advisers said in interviews with The New York Times that he had struggled to master the intricacies of the Middle East and national security and that intense tutoring was having little effect.

"Nobody has been able to sit down with him and have him get one iota of intelligent information about the Middle East," Duane R. Clarridge, a top adviser to Mr. Carson on terrorism and national security, said in an interview. He also said Mr. Carson needed weekly conference calls briefing him on foreign policy so "we can make him smart."

And a follow on to my response:

This statement is not fair to Carson either:

“Carson is a Biden style gaffe factory.”

Biden is a blithering idiot. He graduated near the very bottom of his class, majoring in history and political science. In law school, he was almost immediately caught plagiarizing, but eventually graduated - again near the very bottom of his class.

Carson is a truly brilliant man....in his chosen profession. He has performed groundbreaking surgeries and is responsible for major advancements in his field.

Should he be president? Nope, not a chance.

But there is no comparison to Biden. I wouldn’t trust Slo Joe to care for a pet when I was on vacation.

According to Google he is an 83-year old political operative and author. Did not read the whole thing but he is supposedly ex-CIA.

I don’t think it’s a valid comparison. Palin has a very solid grasp of issues, both foreign and domestic, and the media painted her as ignorant and/or nutty. Carson really is.

He is his own charity.

I briefly scanned an article that was indirectly link on FR, because the article is on a website that cannot be mentioned on FR.

It basically said Carson is the 2016 version of Cain (2012) who is a candidate primarily to get big money from donors:

Ben really should have resisted all the well-meaning efforts to draft him for a presidential run. He’s a good person, but nowhere near cut out for the job.

The sooner his campaign ends, the better for everyone, in my opinion.

Good discussion by the panel on special report. Discussed both sides. Not have a trusted advisor vs needing more than a few advisors can instill in short period of time.

Ben would best serve country in a cabinet position.

Dewey (as his friends know him) Claridge is the last of the great American spies and patriots.

But he is very ill right now, and for that and other reasons I have my doubts as to the veracity of this article.

On the other hand, I fully believe that Carson has trouble grasping both foreign policy (and domestic policy)

Oh he gets it ‘55! Barry knows EXACTLY what he is doing. He is following the orders/directives of his globalist puppet masters to destroy America perfectly.

we've already got an unqualified black president.

Ben Carson's lack of qualifications for the office of president have nothing whatsoever to do with the color of his skin.

You’re right I shouldn’t have included “black”. There was no racial intent in my comment.

This race invites the fantasy football analogy.

Several of the candidates look like good cabinet picks. My draft choice goes to giving Trump the EPA with the mandate to dismantle it in a year.

After the election, Sarah Palin’s debate prep advisors ran to the NYT and called her an idiot.

This is why I call this episode with Carson Palinization.

He presumably has this ‘advisor’ on the payroll to advise and educate him on foreign affairs...just like Palin had debate prep advisors on her payroll.

But Palin and Carson are both political outsiders. That means they can’t even buy loyalty in DC...and their own paid advisors are more loyal to the NYT than to them.

That’s why I made the comparison. I won’t vote for Carson, but this isn’t about him. Its about a political ruling class that has set up a machine that stabs political outsiders in the back, seemingly every time.
