Trump's new face (hires Katrina Pierson as national spokeswoman)

On Monday, as Ted Cruz announced a bill banning Muslim Syrian refugees from the United States and Donald Trump talked about shutting down American mosques, Trump's new national spokeswoman took things one step further.

"Islam preys on the weak and uses political correctness as cover," she wrote on Facebook. "Two things that Americans won't be concerned with when @realDonaldTrump is in the White House."

If Trump is to maintain both his dominance on the airwaves and the support of hardcore Tea Partiers, it will be with the help of Katrina Pierson, who speaks the language of the party's grass roots activists with more fluency and even less regard for the normal bounds of political discourse than her new boss.

To the Trump campaign, the newly hired Pierson--a one-time Cruz loyalist who stood with him on stage on the night of his election in 2012--brings a tough-talking conservative message delivered with a Texas twang and a polished presence on camera and social media.

Her addition last week indicates Trump's resolve to keep the party's activist base in his camp and away from the Texas senator, who many see as the natural heir to Trump's anti-establishment supporters should the mogul's candidacy fade.

People who know Pierson, a media-savvy former Democrat with plans of launching her own fashion line, describe her as a much better fit for Trump than she is for Cruz.

Pierson, a frequent guest on cable news, said that as a Trump staffer she will continue to do what she has been doing for the past several months for free: touting the businessman's message on television and social media.

I saw her last night, I think on the kellyfile, {I know I shouldn't watch the bitch, but she does have some interesting topics} and Pierson was terrific. The Donald bought a keeper with this one.

Katrina Pierson and her story are what the Republican Party desperately needs

Katrina Pierson is challenging incumbent Representative Pete Sessions in the Republican primary for Texas 32nd Congressional District, though few outside of Dallas have heard about her race. Rep. Sessions has voted for TARP, against reining in the NSA, to raise the debt ceiling eight times and personifies pork-barrel spending.

Sessions is the quintessential "RINO." Pierson is the exact opposite on each of these issues, taking the conservative stance.

But it is Katrina's incredible story that should make her so valuable and inspiring to a Republican Party seeking to reach more Americans. Born into poverty, Pierson's mother was only 15-years-old and her upbringing was certainly less than ideal. When she got into trouble as a young adult after a friend encouraged her to shoplift, she was caught and didn't have much hope.

But instead of giving in, she saw a fork in the road. She had a choice of taking the easy flat road or climbing the hill, taking a more winding and challenging road.

She could have taken the flat road that led to the cyclical dependency on government, but instead she gave it her all. She wanted to give her child a life better than what she had. She put herself through college and earned a degree in biology. Most recently, she worked as a healthcare administrator at a level I trauma hospital. Soon, she will be sending her son, who is now 17 years old, off to college.

Katrina did what we would all hope to do when faced with adversity. She overcame.

In September of 2013, Pierson decided to run for Congress. She has worked tirelessly the past several months to build her campaign and name recognition in her district. She has reached out to people across her district, and the country, to give them her message about what Washington needs.
