Chris Matthews Equates ISIS and Islam with Mussolini and Catholics
American Thinker ^ | 11/18/2015 | Jonathan Ehret

Posted on 11/18/2015 7:58:45 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Keeping up with the vacuity of progressive Leftists is nothing if not exhausting, and the terrorist attacks in Paris have left no shortage of bumbling dissembling among the Leftist elite. Yesterday, Democrat Propaganda Minister and MSNBC host Chris Matthews breathlessly declared:

“I don’t think Franklin Roosevelt, as angry as he was at Mussolini, never declared war on the Catholics. Anyway, that would have been a stupid thing to say.”

Mr. Matthews is of course referring to those not adhering to the politically correct mantra of ISIS having nothing to do with Islam.

Well speaking of stupid things to say, let’s dissect this latest gem from Mr. Matthews. Like any good Leftist, he completely omits reference to FDR’s internment of Japanese-Americans for the duration of the Second World War as potential enemies of the state. Such action seems to contradict Matthews’s claim that the progressive icon could separate the wheat from the chaff in matters of national security.

Second, he seems to fundamentally misunderstand FDR’s relationship with Mussolini for the majority of their respective periods of rule. Jonah Goldberg cites extensively FDR’s admiration for Mussolini and his fascisti in his book Liberal Fascism:

“FDR sent his ambassador to Italy with a letter regarding ‘that admirable Italian gentleman’…saying that Mussolini ‘is really interested in what we are doing and I am much interested by what he has accomplished.’”

A more apt comparison is between Brownshirts and rank and file Nazis.

He always reminds me of Fred Willard in Best in Show - bloviating about a subject he knows nothing about.

I took a lot of history classes in school and I don’t recall any mention of Italian Catholics donning suicide vests and making bombs and to murder innocent bystanders.

Well Catholics don't have a creed to kill non-Catholics.

Mussolini was an atheist.

The upshot of all such "moral equivalency" comparisons is that we should do nothing about Muslim terrorism.

That's the real issue, not the fatuousness of the particular comparison.

Sure, Chrissy. I can’t tell you how many Catholic priests there have been who’ve strapped on TNT and blown themselves up.

Chrissy...you ought to get that Syphilis treated. I understand it eats your brain. Maybe Hillary can channel Al Capone for ya and confirm this.

Maybe he should wonder what would have happened on 12/7/141 if FDR was a Shinto?

Chris Matthews is a lunatic. As is anyone who thinks that calling oneself catholic is the same as following the teachings of Jesus. One has to follow the teachings of Jesus to be a Christian

Mussolini was a dictator and as such did not open a catechism read it and follow it

Ditto Chris Matthews so far as reading the catechism and following it.

Islam on the other hand can be followed by people who murder

When these people like Matthews who pretend to want to inform us actually pick up th Koran and read it then they will be more informed and able to say the know something. Which they do not

Heck Matthews can pick up and read a catechism
He hasn’t I’m sure

Btw. Anyone calling themselves catholic should own and refer to the catechism. Otherwise they can’t say they know what they’re talking about

Well Catholics don't have a creed to kill non-Catholics.

And Jesus didn't carry a sword; kill, rape, and enslave his enemies; and cut off the heads of innocent prisoners. Mohammed, the perfect example for Muslim imitation, did.

I can't remember a thread that has so much convoluted commentary that pretty much has nothing to do with history ...

but I've seen a lot of that lately in FR

It's a damned shame, but unless there is a specific reason to reply to someone ... I'll seek out the oldest FReeper (like HERE) and make my comment

Not that I'm saying anything to YOU, but that my generalized comment might be more understood

Mathews says stupid things. But gets away with it.

At the time of the Philadelphia train derailment, Mathews slammed the GOP as treating trains the way they treat Hispanics.

At the time of Ted Kennedy’s funeral, he said that Obama was the last Kennedy brother.

After Obamas first debate in 2012 with Romney, Chris pleaded with the president to receive our marching orders on reporting.

He’s not all there but he’s supposed to be some revered journalist on MSNBC.

It’s a bit off topic, but when it comes to history, Mussolini started out life as a card-carrying Communist. But he didn’t want to kowtow to Stalin, who claimed to be the one and only Boss of international socialism, so he started his own movement of national socialism instead. Hitler took note from Mussolini, and did the same, with his National Socialist Worker’s Party.

Pissy Chrissy was on 'Celebrity Jeopardy' a few years ago. His performance was astonishingly bad. He's both arrogant and dumber than a box of rocks.
