Here is something that I wrote yesterday about Islam.

We have freedom of religion in our country. Islam is a theocracy.

What is a theocracy? Glad you asked. A theocracy is a system of government where the “priest” rules as God. So, you see, Islam is also a system of government, not just a religion. The first amendment to our Constitution clearly states that Congress shall not establish a religion. Many have misinterpreted this as “separation of church and state” but that is a whole different discussion.

If Islam is both a religion and a system of government it is contrary to our Constitution in several regards. First, we already have a system of government, and we cannot have two systems of government operating at the same time in our country. Secondly, to have a system of government in our country establishing a religion it is, once again, a violation of the first amendment.

Pure followers insist on Sharia law. Sharia law is not a law that was passed by our Congress and then signed into law by the President. Sorry, no Sharia law in the USA.

There have been arguments about shutting down mosques. Good issue to debate. If Islam is actually a theocracy there may be a valid point in shutting down the mosques. It will take a Constitutional expert to review those points.

Why have other countries banned Islam? Possibly due to some of the reasons above. I really don’t know the inner workings of all their laws.

I would add that because of our tax laws, and the governmental practice of granting 501c non-taxable status to Muslim and other groups, Congress is doing exactly what the First Amendment absolutely forbids: Officially recognizing and establishing religion.
