And then he set about doing what he could which was to strengthen the border. Was he perfect ....no but he was damn honest about what he was trying to do.

Regrettably, I must disagree.

While there is much to admire about GWB, the immigration issue an the border are not among them.

The Clinton administration conducted over 20 times more actions against illegal employment than did the Bush administration. In fact, about 10 million depoertations occurred under Clinton vs about 1.5 million under GWB (and around 3 million so far under Obama).

Most of the illegals who came across the Rio Grande and are in the USA today came over during the GWB administration.

And once the people had destroyed GWB's amnesty initiative and Congress had subsequently authorized 700 miles of fence, he found a way around it. His cat's paw, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), killed the appropriation for the fence so that only a few miles were completed.

The border is not George W. Bush's best suit...

You are sadly misinformed and buying into the lefts numbers.

Im in New Mexico which happens to be close to situation and i have read a fair amount about it
For most of the years of the Bush administration the policy was to capture illegals, stick them on a bus and send them back to Mexico and not run them through the red tape or courts .......It was shell of a lot cheaper.
As a result they were not officially counted as deportations.
These vastly outnumbered the numbers you cite.
And if you haven’t noticed you can make Global Warming plausible if you just use the right numbers.

Also do yourself a favor and google the 2006 Fence Act
we spent 1.2 Billion dollars on it yet Bush gets no credit for any of it.
And most Freepers have no idea it even happened

Here is the last sentence of an article I cited for another guy who tells me Bush was the problem:

In short, Congress failed to continue to fund the project past the initial $1.2 billion procured, in order to finish building the fence.
