At least 27 dead after Islamists seize luxury hotel in Mali's capital

At least 27 people were reported dead on Friday after Malian commandos stormed a luxury hotel in the capital Bamako with at least 170 people inside, many of them foreigners, that had been seized by Islamist gunmen.

The former French colony has been battling Islamist rebels for several years, and the jihadist group Al Mourabitoun, allied to al Qaeda and based in the deserts of northern Mali, claimed responsibility for the attack in a tweet.

By late afternoon, ministerial adviser Amadou Sangho told the French television station BFMTV that no more hostages were being held.

But a U.N. official said U.N. peacekeepers on the scene had seen 27 bodies in a preliminary count, and that a search of hotel was continuing. It was not clear whether any of the gunmen, who were said to have dug in on the seventh floor of the hotel as special forces advanced on them, were still active.

*snip*

A Turkish official said five of seven Turkish Airlines staff had also managed to flee. The Chinese state news agency Xinhua said three of 10 Chinese tourists caught inside had been rescued.

I hate to say this, but this doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of publicity and/or is being buried. Now there are certainly fewer journalists there, but still...I guess that the media doesn’t think that Black Lives Matter. A good number of the bodies being carted out seem like locals.

Yes, I would love to go up to any Black Lives Matter type and ask them to name ten African countries not called “South Africa’.

The Islamist sure look like they are winning to me.

You're right. It's a three-front war. The first front is the terror attacks, like this one. The terrorists get wiped out. Does that mean they have lost?

No! Because the second front is the propaganda war. These attacks make the islamists look bold, and unstoppable. Advantage to the islamists.

And the third front is the immigration war. Advantage to the islamists, again.

So what will stop them? Perhaps this (odd) combination: Trump + Putin + Marine Le Pen.

Not many roads lead to Mali.

Mali is a good friend of France—send in the Foreign Legion! They will make short work of these terrorists.

“Every time Obama opens his mouth, saying that islam is no threat, more people are killed in Islamic terror attacks...”

Looks like another setback, alright. But it doesn’t seem “contained”.

I was told by one a while back that South Africans are not really African. I told her neither are black people whose relatives have been here generations. She called me a name and walked off.

Not winning by a longshot. They are committing acts of isolated terrorism and getting maximum media coverage. That creates the illusion that they are more powerful than they really are.

They will continue to do this as long as it works for them.

I had to think about it a little. My guess is that 10/10 Missou students fail that one.

“Malian troops stormed the hotel??!?!?”

They seemed pretty good at it and well-equipped. I’m afraid that they have had a lot of practice.

Do you honestly believe that ISIS is capable of taking on the entire world ie. Russia, China, US (if we ever choose to get serious)etc etc and prevail...delusional.

They may (and probably will kill a lot of innocents), disrupt commerce and take swaths of territory in Muslim dominated countries but take over the world, ain’t no way.

Good points. Here is a repost of a reply I made making a similar point:

Let me tell you, it is not a problem of money. The ME states are not stupid. This is a part of the larger plan of exporting Islam. Even if it all stopped this instant, Islam has just made significant gains in transferring their “culture” to Europe and the US. When your game involves patience and hundred year time spans, “so what” if you are stopped for a few years or even decades. There is an evil hand at work here and it’s not even trying to hide it’s tracks anymore

ISIS keeps drawing the Chinese into their war. Not vy smart.

China could simply re-populate Mali. It could send people from a couple small counties in Fujian or Szechuan Province, and immediately they would be more numerous than the natives themselves and they would run the show.

Problem solved.

I'm not saying that you are necessarily wrong, but don't underestimate the power of the birthrate multiplier, and don't underestimate the power of conversions. Add to all that the power of time.

I'm not worried about the islamists taking over the West by military force. But I'm worried about the things I mentioned above.

Let me rephrase the question.

Do I honestly believe that an unrelenting very small group of people is capable of ruling a much larger group of passive people against their will?

YOU BET THEY CAN! Just look at the United States.

In order for one to be ruled, one’s mind simply needs to be controlled by another.

You better wake up. It’s happening right in front of your face.
