Ex-Senate candidate O'Donnell: FEC lawsuit is a 'witch hunt'
AP ^ | 11/20/2015 | Randall Chase

Former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell said Friday that a Federal Election Commission lawsuit accusing her of improper campaign expenditures is a "witch hunt" and a waste of taxpayer dollars.

O'Donnell, who famously declared during the 2010 Senate race that she was not a witch, made the comment in a teleconference with the federal judge hearing the case.

O'Donnell also said she is having trouble hiring a local attorney, claiming that at least three lawyers she has talked to have received phone calls warning of "political backlash" if they represent her. She declined to identify them or provide further details, noting that an Associated Press reporter was listening to the teleconference.

O'Donnell's former local attorney, Richard Abbott, withdrew from the case last month, saying he hasn't been paid for his services.

FEC records show O'Donnell has given her campaign committee $15,000 in two unsecured, zero-interest loans this year for legal services. The committee, which had cash on hand of $571.96 as of Sept. 30, owes $14,118.92 on the loans, which are due Dec. 31.

Judge Leonard Stark ordered Friday's status conference to try to keep the case from falling further behind schedule. The defendants have failed to meet a Nov. 10 deadline for responding to the FEC's discovery request for documents. O'Donnell also has yet to comply with federal court rules requiring that she have a Delaware-based attorney before outside counsel can become involved.

Okay. So there is the Associated Press’s fabrication of the story. What is actually going on here?

All she did was run for Congress.

She should have come in as a Syrian refugee.
Then no one would be looking in to her.

Ralph Nader used to call this a SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation).

You little people have no business running for Congress. That is a job for brahmans, intellectual elites, members of family dynasties, and other important people with Beltway connections. Average citizens need not apply.

Any imprudent upstart who deigns to try and run will feel the back of our hand.

She's guilty of "breathing while Republican".

Multiple felons Hillary Clinton, Lois Lerner & Jon Corzine, meanwhile, are LIVING LARGE on the fat of the land.

It's GOOD to be a DemoLefty.

She was an outstanding dingbat, and would have made a fine dingbat Senator.

You’d best not run against the establishment unless you got lots of money. ‘Cause they will come after you whether you win or lose.

What a bad choice as to whether to believe O’Donnell or the FEC. Neither side is particularly worthy.

No one will represent her b/c she's already stiffed one lawyer.

As for her excuses, I've haven't read such hooey since Aimee Semple McPherson disappeared off a beach in San Diego and showed up months later walking in from the Mexican desert in heels, with no sunburn, claiming she had been kidnapped by crooks named Steve and Rose.

All she did was run for Congress.

She did more than that. She knocked out 9-term congressman Mike Castle. She failed to do what Dave Brat did, which was to win the general election.

She's being destroyed for taking down the establishment Castle.

She was totally betrayed by the Republican party after she beat their favored candidate Castle in the primary. The trashing didn't have to come from the democrats, it was all done by the local GOP (and Rove, nightly, on Fox).

Her whole campaign was done on a shoestring - she had no big money backing. Her family is not rich. Had she had the support of the local GOP (after all, she did win the primary fairly) she quite possibly would be a senator that the tea party could have been proud of.

"She was an outstanding dingbat, and would have made a fine dingbat Senator."

Yeah, like Mitch and his coterie of dingbat, Uniparty clowns masquerading as "conservative" Republicans senators.

Just another IRS computer glitch! No sweat!

Internal Revenue Service IRS filed a lien in 2010 (on the day she announced her run for the open U.S. Senate seat), on the house that O’Donnell had not owned for two years, claiming that O’Donnell owed $11,744 in back taxes and penalties

The lien was later removed, as the IRS said it was an error caused by a computer glitch
