IIRC even the Greek language had changed from the common (but precise, not vulgar) Koine in the twelve centuries between the time the NT was written and Erasmus' time (~1509 for his first Byzantine Majority Textform compilation).

Don Martin's Basic Biblical Greek Lesson One (click here) discusses the transformational aspect. It might be said that without Erasmus' "Textus Receptus" there likely would have been no Tyndall, and hence no KJV.

Erasmus was keen on printing an acceptable Greek text for Bible students everywhere.
