The articles on this topic I’m seeing seem to all be referring to US-based gun sales. Got me curious about France, so found the following:
Gun ownership, licit and illicit, is 31 firearms per 100 people. 4.4 people per 100 are gun-registered.
France is the 5th country in the world, WRT total guns in private hands (19,000,000). For rate of ownership in private hands, it is #12.
I think it’s not too difficult to buy a single/double shotgun or .22 target pistol in France, but not too sure about anything more high-powered.
