Elizabeth II is 89 years old. Her mother lived to the age of 101. She stands a fair chance of outliving Charles, who is 68 years old. However, his father, Prince Philip, is 93, so Charles has inherited some good longevity genes. I am not familiar as to how the rules of succession to the British throne work to allow Charles to be bypassed, even if this is a good idea.

Evidently, my Brit friends says abdication in favor of a third generation heir is acceptable. It depends on the circumstances.
She is not happy with Charles, and Camilla is “poor white trash” to the Queen. She loathes the woman, and still refuses to accept her into the family. I’m thinking Charles is regretting marrying her.
At this point, the field is open.
