I really just don’t understand the point of the argument. The war started with them making a pact with the Nazis, and begun to turn around when they turned against the Nazis, why in the world should anyone give them credit for anything? They helped cause a mess. They helped end a mess. Then they created a whole new mess all on their own.

Hitler was bent on war and revenge after the defeat of Germany in WW1. They (IIRR)took back the Ruhr, built an incredible war machine, took over Austria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Norway and Poland was to be next. with the USSR the next victim on the list.

The war was well on the way.

The Nazis had allied with Italy and Japan, who was encroaching on the USSR on its'eastern border tying up their army. The signing to split Poland was a delaying tactic that benefited both the USSR and the Nazis.
