Probably the best news today is that Putin was hosting King Abdullah of Jordan when this all happened. I imagine this will help keep things from getting out of control. The King of Jordan has long been a voice of reason in the Middle East.

Whether Putin disputes the airspace issue is secondary. Shooting down an aircraft is an act of war and Putin is obligated to respond. The dispute over whether or not the airspace was violated is the realm of diplomats and Putin ain’t one.

IF (big IF) the Russian aviator did violate the airspace, the Turks are obligated to attempt to force the offending aircraft out of their airspace, not shoot it down. If the Russians turned hot towards the Turks, then all bets are off. I doubt that is what happened as the Russians are focused on ISIS. This act shows where Turkey’s loyalties lie.

Turkey used to have the third largest mechanized army, I wonder what it is today.

Just burns your liberal ass that Russia is killing the muslims Obama supports doesn’t it?

I noticed you’ve been sparse on the Russia threads lately. Can’t say anyone missed your leftism.

As I remember, they were supposed to be going to a refinery in Iraq. The following day there was a report that Obama took out ISIS tanker trucks.

Lots of trucks though. Big operation for sure.

I got this from another poster on here. Shooting down Russia jet was not necessary when they're not the enemy. This sort of action is something you do against an enemy. Do you think Americans will shoot down Canadians fighters simply because they cross our borders for a few minutes. You warn them, you tail them and then guide them across the border is what they should've done

If the pilots were shot at while they parachuted down expect those who did that to pay a heavy price for their ‘victory’.

And then there’s the rescue helicopter that was supposedly shot down also.

Because Putin is right and he is a terrorist supporter.

I strongly disagree with that. This wasn't just something that happened once, today.

If you remember, there were stories in the news a few weeks ago about Russian aircraft violating Turkey's airspace. Turkey issued a strong warning at the time, and the stories disappeared for a while.

I don't think Turkey had any obligation to warn them again.

... the Turks are obligated to attempt to force the offending aircraft out of their airspace.

How do you do that?

I disagree. Russia MUST not do Option 1. Doing nothing puts him in the half breed’s class and the inevitable comparisons that would arise.

Option 2 with a “Oops” is probably the best option. Light up the Turkish fighters and have an equipment malfunction down one of the Turkish fighters. Follow up with an apology and an offer to replace the jet - with a Russian plane, of course.

"Do they want to make Nato serve ISIS?"

I suspect that the US helped ISIS, at least in the early days. Hussein has certainly not been doing more than cosmetic pinpricks of late.

Hussein is still on the side of deposing the more secular ME governments in favor of Muzzie Bro types being given the keys to the Caliphate.

Your U.S.-Canada example is a poor one.

A better example would be a Chinese aircraft flying across the U.S.-Canada border while engaged in combat in a war zone in Canada.

I can assure you that the U.S. response to such an incursion would be much different than the U.S. response to a Canadian fighter jet that wanders across the border for a few minutes.

The US has certainly done essentially nothing when the Mexican Military has made incursions.

I think this was the strongly worded letter with serious action to follow. The Turks made a huge miscalculation here.

“I don’t think he means a strongly worded letter.”

And, if Putin draws a red line...it’ll be painted in blood.

And you love the fact Putty is all cozy with the Iranian muslims, helping them establish hegemony over the middle east. Who’s a bigger threat?
Mullahs with nukes or the ISIS morons.
Dead Jihadis, dead Russians is a win win as far as I can see.

Does Russia have an AWACS like presence in Syria?

Turkey's Erdogan is no saint either.

Doesn't he want to be the head of the caliphate?
