Russia jet SHOT DOWN: Turkey to face 'consequences' as Putin calls act 'stab in back'

TURKISH warplanes have shot down a Russian jet which they claim flew into the country's airspace. The aircraft was shot down after it was warned 10 times in five minutes to leave Turkish airspace, a Turkish military official has said.

It was just over the Syrian border in Turkey when it was downed by F16 Fighting Falcon jets belonging to Turkey, the official added.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin said the plane was 4km into Syria and had not violated Turkey's airspace as it flew at an altitude of 6,000 metres - and claimed it was shot down from the ground not the air.

NATO has announced it will be holding an extraordinary session at 4pm GMT after Turkey requested it following the incident.

Turkey sides with ISIS.

They should be kicked out of NATO.

Looks like the airspace in question is a very tiny area over a non-descript, very remote mountain. The Turks screwed up by firing first since that bomber was no threat to Turkey.

Barack Hussein Obama will be available via Skype from somewhere on the back nine of whatever golf course he is playing on today.

If Turkey invokes Article 5 - our CIC is gonna wet all over himself. Why we wanted the Turks in NATO baffles me....this could also be a setup to draw us into a fight with Russia: Turkey allows one of its fighter jets to be shot down, invokes Article 5 and draws the infidels into WWIII in the Middle East

Whether or not that is true, Russia’s SU-24 was clearly a combat aircraft with its IFF turned off operating unlawfully across Turkish territory in defiance of many warnings to identify itself and reverse course away from Turkey. These same Russian aircraft have been violating standard rules of engagement by intimidating the Turkish air defenses by locking-on their weapons’ radar targeting systems ever since the previous incident in October. Turkey was entirely within its rights to shoot down the apparently hostile and unresponsive warplane.

No, it won’t work. it takes a lot more than a few aircraft or ships destroyed before a war is begun, unless one of the parties intends to make war.

This could put a crimp into Turkish plans to create a zone splinting the various Kurdish groups on its border. The no-fly zone everyone is talking about may become a no-fly zone for the Turks.

Just heard report that FSA killed one of the pilots as he was parachuting down—and still in the air. Is this a US-supported group? So uncontrolled that it is okay to shoot a pilot while in the air parachuting down. Don’t care who the pilot is, this is wrong.

Russia has violated the air space and territorial waters as well in the last few years under Putin’s “show ‘em who is boss” approach. Turkey called his bluff. Maybe he should not violate the sovereign territory of other nations.

“What, Erdogan lie?”

He doesn’t need to lie. The Russian SU-24 was being photographed and video recorded from many different angles by many different people. It is very obvious beyond possible doubt that the Russian SU-24 took a straight line course from one part of Syria to another part of Syria by overflying a part of Turkey lying between them. Just look at the photographs and the radar tracks.

The current situation in the world is so sick that I wouldn’t be that surprised if our president encouraged him to do it, given that they appear to be good friends.

NATO Vows Military Support If Turkey Goes To War With Russia
Stollenberg talked up Turkey having the “second-largest army” in NATO and having a “capable” Air Force capable of being “first responders” in a conflict against Russia.

Russian violations have been ongoing and persistent. The Turks warned that this would happen. Putin's a bully, but not everyone fawns over him or is afraid. The article below was from 6 Oct 15.
