As I am sure you are aware, John Adams was a prolific writer and regretted not having taken the Jeffersonian approach to dealing with them until his dying day. At the time, however, paying ransom seemed like such a good idea because the initial demands of the Muslims were modest and the United States had no navy with which to enforce it.
I believe you are incorrect on your date for the end of the Little Ice Age.
According to Encyclopedia Britannica: “Today some scientists use it to distinguish only the period 1500-1850, when mountain glaciers expanded to their greatest extent, but the phrase is more commonly applied to the broader period 1300-1850.”
That being said, I cannot disagree with the rest of your comment.
