First of all, the tradition of a “pillow fight” at a US service academy is just flat embarrassing. Second, the cadets were filling the pillows with hard objects. Thinks of being beaten with a bag of nickels. Dangerous and not a lot of fun. Third, this isn’t exactly something Patton and Eisenhower were doing. It’s a tradition dating back to only 2001.
The powers that be are basically saying they won’t sanction a “tradition” that involves violent assault. I have no problem with that. “Constitutional rebellion pending?” Really? You enjoy making mountains out of molehills?

That might not be right. Other articles say that the tradition goes back to at least 1897.
