President of the Senate is a figurehead with no power.

That's "Old School" thinking. The opportunity is there, Trump & Cruz need to take it. The Congress is rudderless. Even a fool like Obama can control it.

Trump is a businessman/manager. He doesn't know politics. Cruz knows politics. Cruz would be Trump's man overseeing Congress. Cruz can push through any law that Trump wants passed - or repealed.

OK, Brothers and Sisters, by what mechanism does the executive branch have any sway over Congress? It certainly isn’t the Vice-President/President of the Senate. I believe it was James Madison who pointed that out. Congress can have a hairy canary anytime it so chooses and there ain’t squat that the executive branch can do about it. Or did I miss something?

Do you think Cruz would buy into being second fiddle in a cat-herding exercise?

I would encourage you both to review the US Constitution regarding the powers of the Vice Presidency visa via the US Senate:

The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.

The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of President of the United States.

Dick Cheney couldn’t impose his will on the US Senate, despite an evenly divided Senate in the first half of 2001. Yes he would definitely have some sway over the Congress and could push through bills— especially if the Trump/Cruz ticket is elected with a clear mandate— but being President of the Senate isn’t going to give him any more magical power.
