If there’s one thing I cannot stand, it’s the “I almost joined, but ________________.” excuse. So what, you deserve an Almost Hero award?
LOL! EVERYBODY gets a trophy. My dad swore me in in 1967 since he was an O-6 and had the authority to do it. Kinda cool to salute your dad. Hell, I already said yes sir and no sir. A lot less no sirs.
Yeppers.
In my eyes, it comes pretty damn close to Stolen Valor.

I agree. It is their way of saying, “I could have done what you did, but I didn’t.”
As one of those in the "almost joined" camp (I was I in an AFROTC class in college when the draft ended in '73, and was told I probably wouldn't be needed), I'll say that I deserve nothing, and that all those who did serve deserve my unfailing gratitude, which they have.
