I’d say Mr. Kelly can KMA. He obviously thinks firearms belong in the hands of the elite and the government, but that the great unwashed of the country can just fend for themselves.

Some of the worst shooters I’ve ever seen were cops. Many of them are abysmally “qualified” to handle a firearm.

I shoot 200 rounds a month minimum, probably more than most police officers and definitely more than most soldiers. I shoot stock GLOCK 9mm(s), not that heavy NYPD trigger crap. I also take a ccw legal class every year to stay current. Granted there are many situations where a police officer would be shooting and I would not because of different ROEs. I take my ccw responsibility very seriously and carry every where legal. Going IDPA next year and this may sound arrogant but I’ll put my range shooting against any typical police officer.

“Police officers, who are highly trained, strike their targets only 20 percent of the time,” he said. “So if you have civilians out there with guns that perhaps they’ve only fired once or maybe even never fired and they’re in a tumultuous situation with the adrenaline flowing, you want them out there shooting their guns? I think you have to think hard about that whole issue.”

Really? That seems awfully high from the LEO’s I’ve shot with.

Personally, I’d want more firepower for suppression and on target, immediately and with extreme prejudice.

I don’t feel like waiting 15 minutes for them to setup in active shooter mode...

In fairness, when cops shoot, it’s usually under highly stressful conditions, and the target is moving, often moving in every direction like a crab.

When you get to Kelly’s level you cease to be a cop and become a politician. And since he worked in NY he’s a liberal politician. No suprises here.

It is the same phenomenon that inhabits the Pentagon, careerism. Since every big and medium sized city in this country has a Democrat mayor and Democrat council, anyone who wants to be a Chief of Police is going to toe the party line. Just as the top brass in the military have carried the Obama water the last 7 year, can anyone believe that a police chief would behave more courageously than the current batch of 4 star generals.
