The Most Surprising Thing About the Colorado Springs Shooting
Red State ^ | December 1st, 2015 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 12/01/2015 5:33:35 AM PST by detective

This past Friday, a lunatic who lived in a shack with no running water or electricity killed three people in Colorado Springs, CO. He wound up going into a Planned Parenthood facility. Three people were killed. None of those were abortionists or patients. A pro-life Christian preacher/police officer was one of the victims.

He shot at people who were coming in and out of PP.

He was shooting at anyone that he could apparently. It was NOT a planned parenthood specific thing other than that's where ended up.

Absolutely!

And, that again, a “gun free zone” was selected. He didn’t choose a location where there could possibly be a defense mounted against him. Go into King Soopers and run into a CCW.

He did target PP. He was hampered in his effort to kill employees and patients by the security features of the PP building. He tried. He was going through the building.

What evidence are you basing this on?

OK, so there was one person interviewed. I stand corrected. Where are the rest of the people who were in the area?

And how do you know that he was thwarted by PP’s security? He apparently went all through the building but didn't manage to harm anyone inside. The bank was nearby, the grocery store was nearby. Certainly both businesses had people coming and going. Where are those interviews?

I think it was a PP specific thing; but in terms of a what he thought was a weak target. A gun free zone. He didn’t attempt to go into the King Soopers or their parking lot because he would be more likely to encounter an armed defense.

The locked rooms; the bullet proof glass; all of their security measures and training have been reported on.

There have been interviews of the people at the grocery store; one describes the person coming in having been shot, blood all over his face.

The rest of their story is along the lines of “we were not allowed to leave the store.”

They don’t have a story to tell.

The wife and I went to the CO state sporting clay tournament in Colorado Springs a couple months ago. Our hotel was close to the trail that runs along the creek through town. The first morning we went for a run on that trail. There was homeless camps all along the creek and enough shopping carts to fill a Walmart. Needless to say, it was a short run and the last in Colorado Springs.

And the government debate was about the terrible conditions in the refugee camps in Syria and how many we should take. Maybe we should start with the homeless camps that already exist in this country.

Hell, I’m taking my Wife in for her chemotherapy treatment in 30 minutes. There’s a, “No Weapons Allowed,” sign at that front door.
Considering that those signs have no force of law backing them, it’ll be ignored.....again.
King Soopers??
I’m ALWAYS armed there.

It has been reported on. That the active shooter program they had in place worked. Employees moved behind locked doors. There are “safe rooms” in the building.

Isn’t the parent company of King Soopers (Krogers?) the company that didn’t back down to the moms against guns group?

The only question I have is “WHY HAS THE GOVERNMENT SEALED THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM WHICH DETAILS MOTIVES?”

Yep.
I also went into the local KS in my area and had a nice conversation with their management about that at the time.
She’s all for CCW in her store, and said several of her employees carry as well.

“Trying to prove this wasn€™t right wing terrorism because he “didn€™t target PP” is delusional.”

I am not trying to prove anything. I am just stating the facts.

I have said I thought he was mentally ill. I have not done a psychiatric evaluation but that is my guess. I don't know why you keep arguing about that.

I don't know why you have to resort to name calling and saying delusional over and over.

There is much that is not known. But we do know that in the several hours that this was going on that the shooter did not shoot a single PP employee though it would have been easy to do. If you want to conclude that you know the shooter intentions and that the shooter wanted to kill PP employees but was somehow unable to shoot a single one then I guess we just have to agree to disagree.

Sorry, ican'tbelieveit, you can't have it both ways. Either the PP building was a "soft target" or it wasn't.

Are you trying to tell us that there wasn't a single person in any of those parking lots when the shooting started?

Sorry, I mistyped. There was apparently only that one person who was outside, the one whom you quoted. Strange for Black Friday to have only one person at a busy grocery store and bank in the parking lot. What about all those who were injured and those who were not injured in the area outside?

When are we going to start talking about how we manage mentally ill people in this country?

Truth is, mentally ill folk have just as much right to a firearm as you or I, and I personally don't have an issue with that, so long as I am allowed to carry a means to put down a mentally ill person with a gun. The whole "mentally ill" garbage is a slippery slope that ends in Conservatives eventually being labeled mentally ill. We have no need of discussing how to control mentally ill.

You are right. Fair enough.

So the way we deal with people who may decide they need to shoot up the public arena we are in is to allow us defense.

I am in full support of that.

But, if we take a look at other situations where we have seen young men on very potent drugs that are affecting their mental stability; I think we should have them institutionalized while they are on those medications. Period.

He was in the PP parking lot. The PP is not in the same “shopping center” as the King Soopers or banks.

He is mentally ill. He “thought” PP would be a soft target. It wasn’t. That is why we only have a handful of injured, and no patients or employees of the facility.

Ok, you say you are not trying to prove anything.

Yet you go on to say that in the hours that this was going on it would have been easy to shoot an employee.

How? They were behind locked doors that he could not access.

So, again, how could he shoot them when he couldn’t get to them.

He was trying.
