They are, as their name implies, National Socialists, with strong connections to the nei-Nazi movements all over Europe. Yes, they hate immigrants, all immigrants, are extremely xenophobic, and hate the USA. They do not challenge the socialist welfare state, just want it only for the French. They don’t believe in free speech, the right of citizens to bear arms. They don’t walk the walk..... MLP lives with a man to whom she is not married, has been divorced twice~ in short, she does not support families and family values.

Currently, there is only one thing that matters: ceasing immigration of Islamics, and ultimately getting Islamics out of France.

If she does only that one thing, France may survive. If whoever runs France instead of her fails to do that one thing, then France will fall, REGARDLESS of any positive qualities the alternate may have.

That's a stunning result -- the ruling Socialists in third, UMP finishing just barely even (or a whisper behind) the National Front. Thanks Cincinna.

By not dealing seriously with refugees, immigration & terrorism, EU center-right is abandoning the field to RW Friends of Putin. Of course.

FN leader Marine Le Pen, who stood in the northern region of Nord-Pas-De-Calais-Picardie, and her niece Marion Marechal-Le Pen, who stood in Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur in the south, both looked to have won more than 40% of the vote, polls predicted, breaking previous records for the party.

Marine Le Pen said it was a “magnificent result” which proved the FN was “without contest the first party of France”.

Exit polls from Sunday’s vote predicted that the FN had won 30.8% of the vote, followed by Mr Sarkozy’s Republicans on 27.2% and President Francois Hollande’s Socialists with 22.7%

Great news! Socialists in free fall. No wonder Hollande is closing down up to 200 mosques! Maybe Marine LePen will close all mosques all and start expelling Muslims them France!

IMO MLP does not have the ability, nor the convictions to govern France.
Strong measures must be taken, and the entire political and legal system, as well as the entire idea of Europe and Schengen must be reformed.
She has a totalitarian mentality that elicits the worst instincts in French voters.
BTW These elections are basically meaningless, the regions have no real power in policy decisions, and have no enforcement powers. They are helpful in taking the temperature of the French electorate.
The main takeaway from today’s election is a beaten, defeated Socialist Party. That is a good thing.
I encourage all of you who understand French to listen to the many interviews and speeches.
France needs a strong leader, who understands and can express the complexity of the problems facing France. France does not need a totalitarian, anti-Anerican, anti Semitic anti free trade leader without
experience.
A national Socialist is still a socialist. When MLP danced at the neo Nazi Ball in Vienna a few years ago, she lost any credibility as a leader of a country that values individual liberty and freedom.
Now that Hollande and his Socialist party have been sent packing, the choice is clear.

The numbers official as per France 2
FN 27.3
LE UMP 27
Socialists eliminated.
Even if the FN wins next week in round 2 they have no power.
Hollande as president can close borders and mosques, which he has done, MPL and regional leaders can not. Regional leaders have zero power on national issues.
JUST BREAKING: REGION PARIS Ile de France
LR UMP 30%
PS 25%
FN 18%
Donc le FN is eliminated for round 2.

You are right. I was jumping ahead to next year’s elections when FN wins the national election.

Sakozy governed from 2007 until 2012. Did he do a damn thing about Islamic immigration?

Show me a link where he proclaims his desire to stop all Islamic immigration into France. Not "reduce" or "slow" immigration -- stop it.

The BBC reports the exit poll showing FN at about 31 percent, ahead of Sarkozy’s Republicans at 27 percent, the Socialists at 23 percent.

The BBC analysis is that for three elections in a row, the National Front is the leading party in France.

In this election, they have achieved record breaking high numbers.

Marine Le Pen only got a vote percentage in the teens in first round in northern France five years ago. She got 49 percent in the first round this time around and looks poised to win the majority percentage in the second round next week easily with that high a percentage.

What is the definition of ‘far right” in France?

And, with our luck, a major step toward yet another General European War.
Any way we can get out of NATO? It isn’t like Western Europe needs or wants protection from the Sov, er, Russians.

The FN has always been against liberal immigration into France from Muslim countries.

The FN came out of a movement called the Poujadists who elected several dozen legislators to the National Assembly in the 1950’s

Among them was Jean Marie Le Pen.

The Poujadists were a movement opposing government bureaucracy regulating and the taxing small business owners in France.

They opposed the influx of North Africans from the former French colonies of Africa in the 1970’s and 1980’s including many who are black.

Their former leader Jean Marie Le Pen has made disparaging remarks about Jews in the past.

The ‘racist’ label has been attached onto them over those matters.

The latest story about the FN is that its opposed to the general influx of immigrants mostly Muslim into the country.

The daughter of Jean Marie Le Pen, Marine Le Pen, kicked him out of the party and she now runs the FN.

Marine is much more popular as is his her niece and granddaughter of J. M. Le Pen, Marion Marechal Le Pen.
At the age of 25, she identifies as a Catholic, and is drawing young voters to the FN.

Marion Marechal Le Pen speaks to crowds saying ‘we are not a Muslim nation’.

Marine Le Pen is a nationalist, not a neo-Nazi. France would be far better off with her in charge.

All too many "conservatives" have assimilated the thought patterns and political instincts of the Left. Among these is labeling any type of nationalist impulse "neo-nazi," any desire to preserve national identity "xenophobia," and any pride in one's culture and people (at least when practiced by Europeans) as "racism."

On the contrary, all too many "conservatives" confuse the distinction between patriotism and nationalism.

"National identity" is ethnic and racial.

Nationalist movements have always been the friend of collectivism, and of the "will of the people"/"national will" overriding individual rights.

Patriotism is based on shared values, not shared blood.

Le Pen's opposition to immigration is based primarily on race, the French people's opposition is based more on values.

Patriotism is based on shared values, not shared blood.

European nations are defined by a shared culture and history, not by some nebulous "common values." Nobody knows or cares what "French values" or "German values" are because only politicians and pundits use or allegedly think in those terms. In contrast, French people are fairly well-defined as a cultural, historical, and political entity. This is what Le Pen's party wishes to conserve. The notion that anyone can become a westerner by ordering a Big Mac and putting on a T-shirt with a catchy slogan is a myth peddled by those (again, only politicians and pundits) who believe that nations are really propositions rather than entities with a culture and a history.

To illustrate how absurd propositionalism is: imagine you could put together an exhaustive list of "French values" that define a Frenchman. Now let's take someone in Japan who has never set foot in France and doesn't intend to, but he subscribes to this exhaustive list of "French values." By this definition, is that hypothetical person in Japan now a Frenchman?
