Gun Debate Yields Page One Editorial
The New York Times ^ | Dec. 4, 2015 | Ravi Somaiya

Posted on 12/05/2015 6:08:52 AM PST by ScottWalkerForPresident2016

The New York Times is running an editorial on its front page on Saturday, the first time the paper has done so since 1920, calling for greater regulation on guns in the aftermath of a spate of mass shootings.

The editorial, headlined “The Gun Epidemic,” describes it as “a moral outrage and a national disgrace that people can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill with brutal speed and efficiency.” It suggests drastically reducing the number of firearms, and “eliminating some large categories of weapons and ammunition.”

“It is not necessary to debate the peculiar wording of the Second Amendment,” it reads. “No right is unlimited and immune from reasonable regulation.”

Let me summarize the editorial:

The best way to stop terrorism in its tracks is to make sure no innocent person can fight back.

If that makes sense to you, subscribe to the NYT. If it seems darn stupid, then donate to FreeRepublic.

"NYT taking a bit of a gamble here. I look forward to their editorial fizzling with no effect."

Libs also forced the Senate gun control votes this week. Two measures were voted down, and that was before the FBI conceded that San Bernardino was terrorism. Incredible tone deafness.

Have to wonder if there are moles for Donald Trump working at the NY Times and in the White House.

Great Democrat theme for 2016: "Vote for us because we'll bring in even more terrorists, and while we're at it, we'll stop you from defending yourself."

Very funny (and sadly, too true). The surrender by the left is assisted by the fact that when people refer to the “world they leave their grandchildren”, most lefties are already an “end branch” of a family tree. Many don’t breed, so the world thirty years from now means nothing.

They can editorialize all they want. Meanwhile, gun sales are hitting new highs.

People see that the government can’t (or won’t) protect them so they’re making the decision to be the first (and maybe only) responders.

Obama should make a symbolic gesture and forego any protection from people carrying guns for himself and his family.

Now that would get my attention.

Snarky words from people who have heavy police presence. Where I live, we have ONE deputy here only 5 days a week, and 2 days a week, we have nothing. Plenty of drug people here & the deputies seem to be able to do nothing about that, either.

City Slickers trying to take away guns from people who live rural & at the same time attacking the police in every city where the police are under duress for DOING THEIR JOB is madness.

The mayhem this has created is not going to cease until there is a serious President in the White House. This president has said openly that he would side with Muslims, and he has said it since long before he was elected in 2008. Perhaps the biggest Trojan Horse of all is Obama himself, because he can keep opening the doors for more troublemakers who hate the USA.

Also-—Dept of HOMELAND SECURITY has been audited & 72 people who are on the terrorist watch list were found to be working there !!!!!!!!!

IF the Obama administration cannot properly vet their OWN EMPLOYEES, why should I or anyone else trust them to properly vet the ‘refugees’ they wish to shove up our noses in our communities???

These ‘refugees’ are the modern day version of the Trojan Horse.....and Obama & DHS are greasing the wheels for them.

300,000,000 guns in the hands of private citizens. I would love these little PJ Boys from Slate, Salon, Daily Beast, Mother Jones, NYT, and all the rest of these sniveling, spoiled, Bourgeoisie brats come and take them.”””

Since they all think they know WHO has guns-—where do I think they will turn when something nasty happens in their neighborhood?

Cops cannot be everywhere. Watch these wussies turn to those who have guns for protection which they chose to not handle on their own.

Thread here at FR earlier this week states that an audit of employees at Homeland Security found 72 (SEVENTY TWO) employees who ere on the terrorist watch list.

With that level of inefficiency we have to think they are really sabotaging us——NOT PROTECTING US.

Islam comes secondary to our own government as a main threat.

Your’re right. I have two houses. In one place, I can call the police and a cop will be in front of my house in 20 seconds. Another will be behind my house 10 seconds later.

At my other house, the town owns two police cars. One is active and the other always sits at the station. On the weekend, we have to rely on the county police who could be 20 miles away. But we are in Wisconsin. So, every other home has at least one gun. I would say they are all very good at using their guns as well. And we have no gun violence here. Interestingly, these guys do drink, but no one pulls out a gun.

In the past 4 years Wisconsin went three years without a hunting accident until this year. Two people died. That’s a better record than their skiing or boating season.

See Something: Do Something!

I believe this is “hate speech” that edges toward violence against those who believe in the Constitution.

How soon will Ms. Lynch be prosecuting the NYT?

You are right. Our government is getting out of control. 25% of the country works for some government entity. We elect a few thousand people to run those governments and many of those people are highly restricted when they get into office. When they say there are two classes in the US. Its government and non-government. We have lost control of our own government here.

Scott Walker did some good work to allow the elected boards and officials to have some control when they get into office. But we need a lot more Scott Walkers at every level.

More and more I realize that the left relies on the ignorance of youth. It makes brainwashing easier. Young people (with a few exceptions) have no idea that there used to be school gun clubs, guns sold via mail order, etc. Same goes with global warming - they think hot summer days are a new phenomenon.

They are preaching to their own dwindling choir.

Their handwringing will change nothing.

We learned a few things this week:

(1) ISIS can strike here, even though the President says they are an ineffectual JV team and that we are safe here.

(2) ISIS can strike here even if law enforcement is "not aware of a credible threat."

(3) ISIS can strike before the police can respond, so the police cannot protect us.

(4) Law enforcement and the administration are so blind that it took them almost three days to admit what it took the public three minutes to recognize: that this was a terrorist attack.

(5) The ISIS terrorists built bombs from commonly available, unbannable, household items.

(6) The FBI and local law enforcement are so incompetent that they could not even secure an active crime scene from cable news vultures.

(7) The administration cares more about the hurt feelings of America's enemies than it does about the dead bodies of Americans, to the point of threatening the First Amendment.

Therefore, the only way the average American has any chance of surviving a terrorist attack is to arm himself and fight back.

When reading the editorial, replace each reference to a gun with the words “pressure cooker”. It makes just as much sense. If not “pressure cooker” try “first amendment”.
