Ted Cruz Is the One Candidates Who Can Face Down Washington-And Win
National Review ^ | December 5, 2015 | Andrew C. McCarthy

To protect American national security we must first understand what threatens American national security. We must grasp who our enemies are, what animates them, and how they work together — despite their internecine rivalries — to destroy us from without and within. We must stop trying to define “true Islam” and start restoring our own principles as our guide: liberty, equality of opportunity, the rule of law, and peace through strength. The vast majority of Americans still believe in these principles. It is Washington that has lost faith. It is Washington that looks at liberty’s enemies and sees friends; that looks at anti-Western Islamic supremacists and sees “moderates” it can play ball with; that looks at lawbreakers and tut-tuts that “the system is broken.” Reinvigorating American principles will require taming Washington. It calls for restoring the Constitution as a vital limit on government, not a relic . . . or an obstacle. Ted Cruz gets this. Many Republicans talk the talk — we hear it in every election season, right up until it is time to stop campaigning and start governing. Senator Cruz walks the walk. That is why I believe he should be the next president of the United States. Cruz understands that the most immediate enemy the United States confronts on the world stage is Islamic supremacism, which ignites jihadist violence through its state sponsors, terror networks, and activist organizations. The senator has not just fought against President Obama’s disastrous Iran deal, which enriches the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism while making it a threshold nuclear power. Cruz has concurrently pushed for the designation, at long last, of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Eeeevil dictator Trump will be enforcing the law and renegotiating trade deals to make America great again :). That’s hardly a traditional fascist dictatorship though.

Spare me your patronizing.

Like Von Hayek’s English socialists, you do not perceive the only difference between your current advocacy and the opposition you fight against is time.

Pretending Trump will become a despot, because he has the temerity to actually win against his ideological opponents is a gross mischaracterization of an “American” personified, and a myopic failure to recognize our status quo.

Pining for the Republic of the Founders is abject foolishness as our electorate is comprised of more than 50% women, unlike those Founders. The adage of trading liberty for security is a fact of life for us as women by their very nature have always been predisposed to prize security more than liberty.

Conservatives must find some middle ground, and as things currently stand, we have precious little to bargain with.

I am sure you agree that Obama has acted more and more despotically. Trump has said he do the same to reverse what Obama has done, not to bring the last tyrant to justice.

Yet you call it pretending Trump will become a despot. The only pretense are those who don’t admit we are already there.

I’m with you if you want it reversed. But by any means necessary does not fit well with a constitutional.

So you think the republic is dead? You may be right. However, don’t pretend to us that you don’t want a dictator. You already said as much, when you argued that Trump wouldn’t be saying what he has “if he didn’t already have a plan to coerce such cooperation.” That is why I broke my silence.

See: COERCE is the word YOU chose. You find it appealing.

Fine. Now be man enough to own the fact that you believe a tyrant is okay as long as he acts as you think is fit. This was Free Republic last I looked.

However, don’t pretend to us that you don’t want a dictator.

No more than you pretend Trump would be, or Obama is a "dictator."

It's one thing to use hyperbole; it is another to believe it.

Correct.

However, you err as to "why" I choose said word.

I believe goodwill and comity are absent among the current generation of our ruling class. Most especially of our opposition. And as in any war, one must take arms apropos to the battlefield upon which one finds themself. Only with victory can one return to the dictates of common civility.

Finally, your preposterous assertion that an Executive erasing the overreach of a previous Executive is somehow overreach of itself is to conflate the illicit violence of the crime with the authorized violence of the law, and is not worthy of serious consideration.

you say: “I really have no idea if Cruz would prove more respectful or not to the old fashioned Constitutional ideal. Maybe he too is saying one thing while not being prepared to really follow through.

I would have expected him, at any rate were he sincere about returning to Constitutional ideals,...”

You truly have ‘no idea’ or just hoping we don’t?

If you really don’t , then you haven’t researched Cruz’s background?

Here’s one reason why the media and such are, right out of the gate, going after Cruz. He’s a no. 1 threat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQA4ww_AnQw

Cruz and the Constitution - He has argued and WON several case in front of the Supreme Court - He knows the Constitution backwards and forward. He can out debate anyone running.

Try being honest and read his bio - he has more experience that we need in the WH than anyone running since Reagan -

and he’s not a crude, rude hot-head...which would also serve us well in dealing with world leaders. He engages his brain before his mouth...

You post: “Prove your assertion that “Cruz can’t win”, because I don’t buy it from the MSM, and I don’t buy it from other conservatives either. PROOF?”

“cruz can’t win cruz can’t win cruz can’t win cruz can’t win...”

The media has been given their mantra...and the bulk of news on Cruz is negative - same in FR

Baaaaaaaa-aa-a

Can you think for yourself?

Citing great aphorisms regarding history does not confer their greatness to ones thesis.

Yes, so hows ‘bout leaving off the “radical” adjective when describing islam?

???

Voices in head or some fact-based concern?

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz

Donate to FR
