Cruz Threatens to Nuke ISIS Targets
Real Independent News & Film ^ | December 9, 2015 | Robert Parry

Posted on 12/08/2015 8:54:29 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Exclusive: Republican presidential campaign rhetoric is red-hot regarding Islamic terrorism, with Sen. Cruz suggesting the use of nuclear weapons to see “if sand can glow in the dark,” a threat even more troubling than Donald Trump’s call to temporarily bar Muslims from entering the U.S., writes Robert Parry.

As Republican presidential candidates lined up to one-up each other about how they would fight Islamic terrorism, many mainstream pundits questioned the hysteria and took particular aim at billionaire Donald Trump for seeking a moratorium on admitting Muslims to the United States, but Trump’s proposal was far from the most outrageous.

Getting much less attention was a statement by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who is considered by many a more likely GOP nominee than Trump. Cruz suggested that the United States should nuke the territory in Iraq and Syria controlled by Islamic State militants.

“I don’t know if sand can glow in the dark, but we’re going to find out,” Cruz told a Tea Party rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In reference to Cruz’s comment, a New York Times editorial added, “whatever that means.” But the phrase “glow in the dark” popularly refers to the aftermath of a nuclear bomb detonation.

In other words, Cruz was making it clear to his audience that he would be prepared to drop a nuclear bomb on Islamic State targets. While the bombastic senator from Texas was probably engaging in hyperbole – as he also vowed to “carpet bomb them into oblivion” – the notion of a major candidate for President cavalierly suggesting a nuclear strike would normally be viewed as disqualifying, except perhaps in this election cycle.

While Cruz drew little attention for his “glow in the dark” remark, Trump came under intense criticism for his proposal to block the admission of Muslims into the United States until the nation’s leaders can “figure out what is going on” in the aftermath of the Dec. 2 terror attack by a Muslim husband-and-wife team in San Bernardino, California.

Across mainstream politics and media, Trump’s idea was decried as both…

I agree with all of those points but I think there is a very real possibility of hundreds or thousands of coordinated Beslan or Mumbai or San Bernadino attacks in the US or a nuke or WMD in a large city with 100,000+ dead, injured.

Would that be worth hitting a desert base with a small tactical nuke or a neutron bomb?

“But nukes shouldn’t be off the table”

I’d stick to neutron bombs. Wouldn’t want to jeopardize our taking their oil.

I've been ponderin the best action right now and have a few thoughts. We have a lot of stuff we paid big bucks for we don't use. One would be the 747 with the chem laser on board. We could loiter in a figure 8 and blast everything that moves on the ground in Syria. Another would be the thingy's with the panels that heat you up with microwaves. I would just turn up the juice and hit the house's and follow up with a Spooky with a minigun putting a round about every 2 inches as they scurried around trying to put out the flames on their clothes.. Another might be to put a daisy picker in downtown everywhere and see how much is still standing in 10 minutes. I would pay to see the look on their faces when one of those went off downtown.

Course there is always my very favorite,...a line of Warthogs coming in fast and low farting all over a column of vehicles. God I love that sound. We should keep the A10's just to fire the gun for visitors to some museum. Nothing like that sound.

Better if we use nukes on them first and wipe them out then wait until they use a couple in American cites to use them.

Nothing is off the table. ISIS and their allies need to know that. Ted Cruz is sending the message.

Just up and killing a city worth of people doesn't sit well with me, unless it can be explained how they were directly complicit.

Because they live there, and they didn't rise up to oppose the evil. Just like Japan, just like Germany. (You're either with us, or you're against us)

A terrorist attacks us in the US, we remove their city.

do we really want to kill innocents randomly also?

At this point, since Obama, the 3Ms have pretty much already killed them. Not looking too good on our part.

Actually the Dems ran it just once then withdrew.. then the MSM employees ran it every night as a news item

That's a longwinded way of saying that the demonicrat party ran it every night as a political ad.

Rewrite their Koran for them... Take out ALL the bits that cause them to kill, maim and destroy, remove the bits about sharia... Print billions of copies and distribute them world wide.

...with a warning... That this is the only acceptable Muslim religion. This is your chance to practice your religion peacefully... Choose the violent alternative and you sign your death warrant.

...and... Its some folks full time job going around and actually killing the folks who chose poorly...

“We will carpet bomb them into oblivion. I don’t know if sand can glow in the dark, but we’re going to find out,” Cruz said at the Rising Tide Summit in Cedar Rapids

Good for him but if Trump wasn’t taking all the heat right now Cruz would be the villain that the media is trying to make Trump to be.

Your argument is decent.

This is a difficult issue.

I am not particularly interested in becoming them to beat them.

I believe in discovering networks and eradicating them. In my response I also made it clear escalation is on the table if this isn’t ended by other means.

This isn’t an issue of wanting things that are not a reality. It’s obtaining the best results for the least amount of loss of human life and our own souls over it.

Putin has weighed in. ISIS may be a bigger threat than we are being told.

It seems to me we see the riff raff of the middle east.

We see the guys who don’t have jobs, no ambition on their own to start a family and create a living, so they get hooked up to the local Imam’s favorite terrorist group of the moment, and take that on as a lifestyle.

The people who run the markets, the shops, the other things that cities are made up of, get up each morning and go about their business.

I’m sure they’re not exactly wholesome either due to their local Islamic cult, but at least they aren’t intent on killing every person that isn’t Islamic personally.

They’re schmucks that are trying to eek out an existence, about like we are with the obvious differences.

Kill the guys that don’t want to join their or our civilization, and be done with it.

If we use them in this war, we give them the right to use them in the future.

Just stop them from getting nukes. That’s why Iran is so crucial right now.

Thanks Jimmy. Thanks Barack.

Hussein Onambla has greenlighted the Iran bomb--sure to be used on U.S.A. and Israel. Ted Cruz knows "red lines" do not deter Islamic aggression.

I’m all for finding out networks and destroying them.

I’m not for killing every person in a city because one of it’s offspring committed a terrorist attack.

I wouldn’t even bother with that.

I’d simply tell them that if they want to live in peace, act like it. If they don’t, we’ll be happy to make sure they don’t live in peace or live at all.
