Jeb Bush was talking Social Security in a room filled with retired people. And in case you forgot, his claim to fame - besides the family name - is that he really likes that policy stuff.
"You heard that expression, 'I feel like a pig in slop? ... In the South, that's a compliment," said the former Florida governor as he wrapped up remarks at an AARP-sponsored summit at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics.
Unfortunately for Bush, the 2016 Republican primary process is all about a kind of slop he doesn't like and seems ill-equipped to handle. For now, Donald Trump - a candidate who is anything but thoughtful - is hijacking a race that the smart money believed was Bush's to dominate.
On Tuesday - as Trump's deliberately outrageous pronouncement that Muslims should be banned from America led the news - the smart money couldn't have looked any dumber.

Why are Trump’s comments awful but Hollande closing mosques, bombing Syria and clearing out apts. in no-go areas, not? Color me confused. Between self-hating Americans and anti-Americans in Europe, I’ve about had it.

The news readers have looked schizophrenic this week.
Their lead-in stories have been about how wrong Trump is to suggest a temporary ban on Muslims coming into the country.
Then their second stories have been on the failures of the government regarding the San Bernadino attack.
It has been bizarre.

Thank you. This past week has been like Alice through the looking glass. To be honest, I got very depressed over San Bernardino. Hurt and depressed. Before I could even get to a second stage of grief, I was told that I was hateful and bigoted for being angry at muslims! Then I was told I had to condemn my candidate and if I didn’t...I was a bigot.
Sadly, it’s this kind of stuff that, of course, will create another San Bernardino. People through guilt and political correctness will ignore reality.
That is dire. I’m right up next to feeling sorry for Yeb, but just can’t cross the line. Thanks for the image.

At least it seems it’s mostly the elite that are keeping their heads buried in the sand.
The public is waking up according to the latest polls.
I have thought that Jebbie would try to stretch his campaign out until at least the Florida primary, hoping that a good showing in the Sunshine State would put him back in the hunt. However, if by then the polling in FL continues to paint a dismal picture for ole Act of Love, he may want to avoid the embarrassment of going down in flames in his home state.

Misleading headline. To fall, you have to be somewhere above ground level. If you are facedown in the dirt, you can’t get any lower, and that is where Bush has been from the start.
