Donald Trump Dares Ted Cruz To Criticize Him In Public
TPM ^ | 12/11/15 | Caithlin MacNeil

Posted on 12/11/2015 5:40:01 AM PST by VinL

One day after a report that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) questioned Donald Trump's "judgement" in a private event, Trump called out Cruz for criticizing him behind close doors but refraining from negative comments in public.

Looks like @tedcruz is getting ready to attack. I am leading by so much he must. I hope so, he will fall like all others. Will be easy!

.@tedcruz should not make statements behind closed doors to his bosses, he should bring them out into the open - more fun that way!

Cruz has so far refrained from bashing Trump in public. After Trump announced his proposal to ban Muslims from coming to the United States, Cruz disagreed but stopped short of condemning Trump's remarks.

But the Texas senator spoke about Trump and Ben Carson during a Manhattan fundraiser on Wednesday, according to the New York Times.

"Who am I comfortable having their finger on the button? Now that’s a question of strength, but it’s also a question of judgment. And I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them," Cruz said of Trump and Carson.

Cruz has started gaining on Trump in the key primary state of Iowa, which may be making Trump uneasy. The real estate mogul has a habit of attacking his Republican rivals when they rise in the polls, as both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal noted this week. Trump may have released his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country in an attempt to boost his support with evangelical voters in Iowa.

HOW in the world can you take exception to that statement?

Or do you agree with Bammie’s position on Egypt?

I understand your concern. But I would LOVE for us to have an infusion of freedom-loving, peace-loving brave Christian refugees from Syria. It would be the same as freedom loving, hard-working refugees from communist Cuba.

Christian refugees would help vetting agents know what church records are bogus. But also ...

Like I posted earlier, eye dialation is an excellent interview aid. And I’m all for that being used on refugees. For example, if their eyes dialate from footage of 9’11, then we would reject their application.

“.@tedcruz should not make statements behind closed doors to his bosses, he should bring them out into the open - more fun that way!”

Pretty scathing on many levels - makes Cruz sound like he’s afraid to speak out in public and the shows the donor/boss connection.

For one that naysayers claim is inarticulate, Trump said a lot was few words.

Funny how Cruz didn’t make these statements in public.

Cruz is like his supporters who post very nasty articles on FR on Trump and then claim that since they didn’t write the article they are not attacking.

So Cruz has to turn down all private meeting requests? Trump has never met anyone in private? Sheesh.

Look at the ACTUAL quote... All he said is that he thinks he will win, because people want someone who is prepared to be CIC, and they will think of him more than Trump and Carson. THAT is what Trump whiners is calling an "attack". Pathetic.

I like and respect both Donald and Ben. I do not believe either one is going to be our nominee. I don't believe either one is going to be our president. I think both of them, their campaigns have a natural arc. And with both of them I think gravity is pulling them down... Carson is further in that descent. You look at Paris, you look at San Bernardino, it's given a seriousness to this race, that people are looking for: Who is prepared to be a commander in chief? Who understands the threats we face? Who am I comfortable having their finger on the button? Now that's a question of strength, but it's also a question of judgment. And I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them. So my approach, much to the frustration of the media has been to bear hug both of them, and smother them with love. People run as who they are. I believe gravity will bring both of those campaigns down, I think the lion's share of their supporters come to us.

“Trump’s conservative critics miss the salient point that he could assume far more centrist policies and be ahead of where he is. He could win over the GOPe and queasy Hillary parties and have a near universal mandate. If he were purely motivated by some sort of elitist value system he would be enticing the middle, not the extreme right.”

I’ve been saying that to those doubting his commitment to what he’s saying. Trump has taken huge risks by stating the positions he has. It all could easily have backfired. If he was pandering, it would be to the party bosses and the squishy middle.

That’s right. It was poor judgement on Cruz’s part to make a statement like that.

Go Trump!

I think it’s that ‘judgement’ thingy that has Cruz in the most hot water.

Cruzies attempting to twist away from that...well, maybe that’s what’s ‘pathetic’.

“Donald’s campaign strategy is to keep everyone talking about the Donald rather than issues.”

Not hardly. If it weren’t for Trump, illegal immigration and how to deal with Muslims wouldn’t even be on the table. Instead they are all that is talked about.

“You obviously didn’t follow Texas politics if you think Cruz is an establishment insider.”

The Trumpeteers Know Senator Cruz is a Conservative, keeps his word, has good judgement, will follow the Constitution but he’s running against The Donald therefore he must be attacked.

apparently, the trumpeter swans skin is just as thin. no, i did not think anything was a compliment, i thought it was one candidate citing his perceived path to victory and stating an area where he believes himself to be stronger. Hardly an attack. I’m sorry you trumpeters have had your itty bitty little feelings hurt.

Here’s a newsflash for y’all though: there is no way Donald Trump will be the President of the United States. And I have listed on a number of posts the reasons why. But, i’ll do it one more time for all of you in Rio Linda.
As people begin to get serious about their votes, they will begin to look for someone who offer more substance and less bombast. Anger is not sufficient.
Hillary will win the debates. She won’t have to do a damn thing on substance, she could lose every point (she won’t, she’s been around the game long enough to avoid that) but as soon as Trump lets his mouth run before his brain, which is his normal mode, he will say something crass and she will play the vagina card and people the nation over will swoon.
He has offered virtually nothing of substance (nor have many others, it is still early), but in Trump’s case, I believe (IMHO) that he thinks he doesn’t have to (he’s Trump!!!). That dog ain’t gonna hunt.
As people, especially conservatives and other Republicans move towards looking for substance, his liberal views, of which there are and have been many, will come more to the forefront. Don’t believe me? How about his statement yesterday that he will issue an executive order mandating the death penalty for cop killers. Something most could agree on? Yes. But is that how conservatives, those who supposedly revere the Constitution, want the President to act? I know I don’t and I believe there will be millions more like me.

Trump’s support is a mile wide and an inch deep. As others drop out he will not pick up the majority of those candidates percentages. He repeatedly polls second to last (ahead of Bush) of “who is your second or third choice” So as others drop out and those percentages go to one of the other top tier candidates (an ever winnowing group), Trump will look less inevitable and for all the reasons I’ve cited above and others, he will lose enough support to stop him from winning.

Now watch how many Trumpeters attack the messenger and don’t debate any of my points.

What Cruz said at the fundraiser wasn’t all that bad, IMHO. What bothers me is that he won’t own up to what he did say.

We’ll see....maybe he will. Kind of hard to though....to say one thing to your ‘owners’, then try to take it back. That’s a dicey deal. Lose, lose.

I think some people can’t handle their candidate not being viewed as favorably as they view them. If they’d think for a minute, surely they’d see that the other candidates have to promoting themselves and not someone else.

As a Trump/Cruz supporter, I don’t want either of them injured. I want 12-16 years of conservative rule.

Cruz is for tighter screening and would allow Middle-Eastern Christian refugees to emigrate here because they are the ones truly facing persecution there:

"You know, one of my biggest concerns with the Gang of 8 bill is that it dramatically lessened the restrictions on refugee policies so it would have given President Obama the power to bring in a great many more refugees from the Middle East without properly screening them for whether they're national security threats.

"But that's also why, Hugh, I've said that a different standard should apply to the Middle Eastern Christians. Why? Because number one, the Christians are facing religious persecution and genocide. ISIS is crucifying them. ISIS is beheading them. And U.S. law has always recognized that when a religious minority like the Christians are being persecuted and facing genocide, that a different standard applies.

"That's been true for decades, if not hundreds of years. And the President is engaged in sophistry when he ignores that, but he ignores the fact that ISIS consists of radical Islamic terrorists. Indeed, the President, astonishingly, argues the Islamic State is not Islamic. That is a level of Orwellian double speak that boggles the mind."

From his interview with Hugh Hewitt on 11/16/2015

You still arent telling me where I’m wrong. Calling it “liberal derangement” isnt telling where it is “liberal” or “deranged”.

Removing Iowa from the 1st position has been a thing conservatives have wanted to do for years because that state is unreliable in the fall elections BECAUSE of its record of falling into the Democrat camp despite all of the importance candidates give to these people.

Now, again, if you can tell me where I’m wrong, I’ll be glad to hear it.
