This seems potentially quite important.

Bump to this.

Hopefully, this reinforces the temporary aspect of H-1B visa work. No more wholesale replacement of permanent workers with H-1B temporary workers.

Ted Cruz is a fraud.

Senator Cruz official website:

..."In 2013, Sen. Cruz proposed amendments to the "Gang of 8" bill that would strengthen border security, expand green card opportunities, increase high-skilled "H1B" visas",....
Was he lying then or is he lying now?

‘Bout time Cruz backed out on his increase of and double talk on H1B visas. Nice to see he finally gets it! I wonder what his big $$ from Club for growth thinks about it.

Ted Cruz: I’ve introduced legislation to increase the number of H1B visas…I want innovators, I want–

Laura Ingraham - But they abuse that…the H1B thing is one of the most abused vehicles that corporations are using today. Disney just laid off a bunch of Americans– I assume you don’t support that? 150 Americans laid off by Disney…bringing in the foreign replacement and they’re training their foreign replacements. I mean, that’s an H1B visa person we need!? I don’t get that…you don’t support the way they did that, do you?

Cruz - I, uh, um, I dont know the facts of that Disney example–

LI - I just told you the facts!

Cruz does seem to be ‘responsive’ to his supporters when they push back on some of his initial topics, ie TPP, H-1B.

Glad Ted’s wised-up on H1-B’s, but the big corporations aren’t going to like him now.

Outstanding news!

I'm so glad that Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Jeff Sessions collaborated together on this legislation. Senator Sessions is the 'gold standard' for issues of immigration and pro-American jobs in the U.S. Senate. The statement from Sessions at the end of the article is political gold for the Cruz campaign and a slam on Rubio that he richly deserves.

First, it requires companies that use H-1B workers to pay such visa holders either what an American worker who did identical or similar work made two years prior to the recruiting effort, or $110,000, whichever is higher.

Un enforceable. What are the "punishments"? This is just lip service, kill the dang thing! Lower the quotas to 0!

While I'm glad to see Cruz finally walking back his support of H1B visas with the assistance of Jeff Sessions, there are few points that I think are crucial that I see missing.

There should be English language requirements at a minimum of a 4/4 (spoken/comprehension) level. What is the point of having a high tech individual, even if he does know his field, but who is unable either to communicate at that technical level or comprehend at that technical level? English testing should be given by and controlled by an independent American language company and not by foreign firms.

Likewise, any claimed level of achievement in the technical field should also be tested by an independent organization of American origin and not of foreign origin.

Finally, there should be a continual audit and not ONLY a moratorium during which there is an audit. Following that moratorium, the audit should be an annual requirement.

Blah blah blah. The only thing that would work would be to end the H1B visas entirely. Any law written to tweak it will simply be avoided. The private sector is a lot smarter than these pols and will just find ways to bring in cheap labor anyhow.

It’s about time we started dealing with issues that matter to the American people.

Of course if Democrats stay in power they’ll let the laws go on the books - then refuse to enforce them.

That’s what they did with border control... big ass fight about the laws - then NONE OF THE LAWS ON THE BOOKS WERE ENFORCED.

There is no FIX for H1B... the program needs eliminated, period. Its filled with nothing but fraud and abuse since its inception, thinking it can be fixed is like thinking Obamacare can be.

This is excellent and will work in all kinds of positions. For instance, in some smaller sports’ worlds, the best practitioners are in other lands. A lot of our coaches here are from those lands. The older head coach is usually from such a country, and to hire his junior coaches, he’ll go to the old country and hire young ones (who do not speak English yet) as they will work hard for peanuts. This will come to a grinding halt if this bill becomes law. Young Americans will have a better chance of becoming coaches.

This probably happens in a zillion businesses. That is a scenario I know.

Second, the bill requires that within 730 days¢â‚¬â€two years ..of “an employee strike, an employer lockout, layoffs, furloughs, or other types of involuntary employee terminations other than for cause dismissals,” a company cannot bring aboard any H1B labor. That means it wouldn't be able to replace Americans with foreigners. The bill also has more transparency requirements throughout.

There is a problem with that statement. Disney didn't hire any H1-B visa holders. It hired a firm that had H1-B visa holders, who would do the job of the US workers.

This is a bad bill.
