Wait a minute. He already said he wanted to increase these visas.

Oh no! Is it possible he changed his mind after getting more information?? Heavens to Betsy, whatever shall we do with such a flip flopper who changes his vote based on the will of voters?

Oh...wait.

he backed off that idea to increase visa by 500 percent ... I heard him discuss the “new” h1b visa package in Orlando a few weeks ago ... it was “fantastic” ... I think he actually read my “open letter” ..

So sad that you either have not been following the campaign or can't be bothered to read. This has been explained numerous times, but for those with comprehension difficulties, I will make one more attempt.

During the debate over Rubio's Gang of 8 bill, which Cruz opposed, Cruz wanted to demonstrate that the goal of the bill was amnesty, not securing the border. To demonstrate that point, Cruz introduced several amendments that would have nullified the "concerns" of the bills proponents, while still denying illegals citizenship and securing the border. One of these was a proposal to increase H-1b visas, to address the "concern" that securing the border would prevent employers from hiring enough skilled labor from overseas. All of his amendments were defeated, as he knew they would be. But the fact that the Senate had to vote against those amendments helped show the Congress the true goal of the bill, leading to its defeat in the House.

It is funny that Trump supporters will overlook Trump supporting Pelosi, Reid and Clinton as just a business decision - but will look at anything done by another candidate as proof of their "establishment" ties. Just goes to show that for many Trump supporters, it is not about logic or reason - it is all emotional.

Cruz published his immigration plan months ago basically stating the same content as is in this bill, although it appears he has stiffened it a bit more (getting around the country and talking to people will do that). He proposed a moratorium on H-1B visas, investigation into and prosecution of abuses of the program, a requirement that it only apply to advanced degrees (and not from some bogus diploma mill), and that the numbers be determined by American unemployment.

Of course, the Trump parade has ignored the change, preferring to bash him for an earlier position (I did provide the link on a thread on which you did post later in the thread, so it was there and you ignored it too).

Isn’t it funny how when Cruz changes his opinion on something it is just fine with some but if Trump had a change of heart on a matter years ago they swear he is not to be trusted. I admire Cruz and find flexibility to grow and improve admirable, but some of his followers are simply over the top in double standard.

That was part of the procedural machinations that Cruz used to kill the Gang of Eight bill. It’s long and involved, but true. You can look it up.
