Trump brings up Cruz's Cuban ancestry at rally
Business Insider ^ | 12/11/2016 | Colin Campbell

Real-estate mogul Donald Trump contrasted his own "evangelical" beliefs with US Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) religious beliefs at a Friday-night campaign rally.

"I am an evangelical. I'm a Christian. I'm a Presbyterian," Trump said, speaking in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Republican presidential front-runner then highlighted the fact that Cruz's father is Cuban.

"We're doing really well with the evangelicals," he continued. "And by the way, and again, I do like Ted Cruz, but not a lot of evangelicals come out of Cuba, in all fairness. It's true. Not a lot come out. But I like him nevertheless."

I was thinking it might have something to do with how hard it is in Commie Cuba to be an evangelical. It makes sense, if like you said, most faithful Cubans are Catholic.

I guess they don’t crack down as hard on Catholics, as evangelical Protestants?

Because he was before a crowd where evangelicals are strong and he’s promoting himself while drawing a distinction with an opponent

What’s the distinction?

Trump doesn't even know where Cruz was born.

Sounds like he’s walking a fine line, which is certainly not his usual style, so obviously, something is up.

This is what trump does. Insult, insinuate, belittle, name call, exaggerate then back up and rephrase or deny saying it. He is a super rino - don’t think he even deserves that having voted for Obama and having no core values save self promotion.

Someone clear this up for me, how can Trump, who has spoken clearly about never asking God to forgive him, consider himself to be a Christian, much less an Evangelical Christian?

Eh, plenty of sites out there that I’ll check. Many are awful but I still check once in awhile for their views. It’s not ‘fun’, it’s actually quite sad.

Perhaps you’re “puzzled” because you tend so easily to make a mountain out of a mole hill ... There is nothing there to complain about, but the Cruz Squad will find something to b**ch about, even if it amounts to no more than a dust spec.

Go after Trump for everything and anything. Just pathetic.

If Senator Cruz were leading in the polls, then I suppose you would not care a whit what Trump has to say ... but I am beginning to think the Cruz Squad is becoming desperate; for why else do they jump on every and any little thing Trump says about their candidate? You are all so “sensitive.”

Actually I see the two of them working together to make the USA great again. I think together they would make a great team.

Why did he say it? Because he was before a crowd where evangelicals are strong and he’s promoting himself while drawing a distinction with an opponent that recently started ti attack his character.

Please provide proof of Ted Cruz attacking Trump's character.

You won't find it because it doesn't exist. Furthermore, you are either purposefully, or just plain emotionally, confusing a statement that Ted made about the CAPABILITIES of Trump, not his character.

You are pretty selective, and subjective, in your criticism, aren't you?!

Almost every single Cruz thread has Trump supporter sliming Ted Cruz.

If you are going to provide constructive criticism, and I believe I am being very nice to you with assuming that, then try to be objective, and not such a Trump fan-boy.

I sent an email to Cruz’z campaign recommending that he start sending out fainting couches with his bumper stickers. Because Cruz supporters sensibilities appear to be offended by the drop of a hat. And the really ironic thing is they are the nastiest posters I have ever seen on FR.

Puhleeezee!

Cruz supporters look like men compared to the cry-baby Trump supporters who look at anything but fawning adoration of Trump as some sort of major slight to Trump.

I agree, but their approach is astute. You can see it playing out here at FR in real time, where you have the two sides lining up to clash in the tunnels, the People's Front of Judea versus the Judean People's Front. It's so simple, yet works every time.
