Authorities discovered a pipe bomb in a residential neighborhood in Anaheim Friday night, police said. Police received a call about a suspicious device around 10:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Claudina Street, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
When officers arrived, they noticed a makeshift pipe bomb with explosives inside, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and rendered the device safe, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

Just a pipe that looked suspicious and they blew it up ... with no description of whether it had explosives inside or not.

My question...what type of explosives? This would point to sophistication, skill and source.
Soon, all metallic piping will have restrictions on sale.
You could make a bomb with plastic piping, but the shrapnel wouldn’t be nearly as dangerous.
Claudina street is less than 5 miles from Disneyland, on the other side of I-5. Interesting.

The first-responders need to be alert like in Israel, they should look for the possibility of suspicious staging in a darkened/hidden area, house, vehicle, -ect. I’d take into consideration an incident like this may be some sort of a dry run. Instead of crowding around the area, civilians should also be aware as the primary distraction may not be the whole intent.
