What is with the interchanging of “assault rifle” and “assault weapon”. They are two different things.
“Assault rifle” is an automatic weapon that is used by the military.
“Assault weapon” is a made up gun grabber term to scare the public.
Assault is a matter of intent, it is not innate in any weapon. The military is all about assault, ie they are on offense, so the term is appropriate.
A law abiding citizen purchases a weapon for defense not assault. To call a weapon an “assault weapon” only applies in how the weapon is used. It is not innate to any particular weapon.
Exactly!
It pisses me off when I hear cops call them ‘assault weapons.’ They are semi-automatic rifles.
They should know better....makes me think they, too, have an agenda.
Nice distinctions. Obama and Co, want our guns described in as horrific terms as possible, e.g. “assault weapons”. The 2nd Amend. simply calls them “arms”.
I suggest that we try to refrain from calling our firearms “weapons” unless the conversation is specifically about self defense (so that we can avoid a charge of being deceitful like gun grabbers).
A set of kitchen knives are tools for cutting, slicing or carving food or they could be weapons. But imagine Aunt Wanda’s expression if you are asked to carve the bird on the kitchen counter, and you ask her to pass you a large ‘shank`.
There is no “assault rifle.” Stop using their language. It’s simply an automatic rifle.
