Norm, my response to your view that it is folly to vote for the lesser of two evils: the issue should not be thought of as
- voting for the lesser of two evils,
but rather as
- not voting for the greater of two evils (where not voting runs the risk of giving the election to the greater evil).

But then, imagining your rebuttal, it occurred to me that the question is somewhat similar to the problem of deciding whether a murderous cult that presents as a religion is entitled to lst A protection ("Congress shall make no law...prohibiting the free exercise thereof...")

It certainly depends on the context.

In order to stop the bombing some British officials advocated negotiations with Hitler that would have provided for a German presence in their country.
Will it take public displays in the US of beheading or stoning to death (albeit on mosque property and limited to its members) for the US to understand that the Koran and Sharia law are indeed a "religion" not to be protected?
What if the next presidential ballot offers a Republican, Democrat and Independent?
